Growing Lump on Luna's Muzzle
Luna is about 8 or 9…. She’s had a lump removed from her lip (non-cancerous) and has a couple of cysts. The vet said she may just be a lumpy old lady but if there are any lumps that grow or change, to bring her in.
Well, she has an appointment booked for tomorrow because she’s developing an oddly shaped lump on her muzzle. She’s a longer nosed dog and it’s located on the top, centered between her eye and nose. It started out like a patch of dry skin and over the week has grown in size. She’s not sneezing nor does she have any discharge from her nostrils. Her right eye was watery, but, she’s had slightly watery eyes before with no infection or other cause. If I touch it, it seems painful to her and there is no discharge or scab or anything on the lump itself. Has anyone else’s doggy had a lump on their nose and it been something other than nasal cancer? I tried searching for other possible causes of this but have found nothing (other than the worst). |

When my Lab was around 7 she started with a couple of small bumps on her face.
One was on her upper eyelid and very intrusive, so the vet took it off along with one on top of her muzzle. The eyelid bump never came back, but the muzzle one did. Over many years it grew and had an odd shape, but the vet said it was a simple papilloma. She ended up with a larger lump on her hip at age 13, and a larger one on the outside of her ear flap at age 14. Sometimes they do require vet analysis, and need to be kept clean.

We've had histiocytomas on faces. They look pretty warty, pink and lumpy, and can get irritated and bleed. Most recently, Ember had one on his eyelid that kept getting scraped as he ran through the brush, so we had it removed, but they're usually benign.
So yes, there are lumps on the face and nose that can be something other than cancer All lumps are scary, though, till you know what they are. for the vet visit and please keep us posted!

The vet visit went well.
We are going to wait ten days to see what happens. Since we have two dogs that frequently wrestle (they chipped each other's teeth recently), he suspects that Luna's got a bruise that's swollen. So if it changes drastically, we'll go back for sure. But, it even appears better today vs. two days ago. So, other than a few older lady lumps, she is healthy and happy. |
