depression/neurological issues
Hi, I am really concerned about my 1 year old shepherd/collie Sam.
He has become very depressed, lethargic, not eating like usual, his gait and his bark have both changed, his eyes are red and droopy and his back legs are rock hard... this began a few weeks ago after my cat died, he ran away several times (never for long or far), when he came back he was very unwell and had a couple of petit mal seizures in the week following, and since has developed this terrible depression. It seems to be deepening by the day... I am waiting to hear from our local holistic vet so that I can book an appointment. But I'm worried it could be a neurological issue.. How do I find a pet neurologist in my local area (East Kootenays B.C) I am so scared for him, I only wish he could talk. Any other suggestions!!?? |

I think the vet visit is your best place to start--and it sounds like the sooner the better. This doesn't sound like typical depression. It almost sounds like he got into something toxic while he was gone. The faster you can get him to a vet for an inital evaluation, the better!
Good wishes for Sam! Please let us know what your vet finds.

I agree as well and your local vet will have to refer you to a neurologist.
Good luck and keep us posted. |

"You're waitng for an appointment with a Holistic Vet?". she says incredously, thinking if this were my dog, (red eyes FLAG, not eating FLAG, lethargy, depressed FLAG, hind limbs dragging BIG FLAG, seizure of ay kind NON-STOP BIG %^&^&*^&%$#^%$!# FLAG"...)
Unless your holistic vet is really a Vet or has an agreement with your local specialists, they can't make referral. Your dog is very ill and needs to see a Vet now. Not tomorrow or the day after. Neuro probs ~ maybe... my first concern, with an otherwise healthy dog who starts showing signs of letrhargy and ends in seizure is what toxic substance are they eating/exposed to. This is a time for a full set of blood tests at a Vet. |
