Pet insurance?
Hi all, just wondering if you have pet insurance for your furry friends? We share our lives with two cats and a dog (all fairly young), and I was wondering what everyone's thought was on pet insurance, and if you could recommend (or not) certain companies? Also, what your reasons are for NOT choosing pet insurance if any? TIA!

No. Insurance companies for pets are like those for people. They exist to make money. While some people make out well with them, I've known too many people with multiple companies who have gotten screwed. Pay out for years, something bad happens, should be covered and they find reason to deny.
I'd rather keep a savings account for the pups.

We also forgo the insurance and just keep an account balance for the dogs. There are so many things that aren't covered for various reasons and most of our big ticket items have fallen into those categories.

Hi:
A few years ago I had the opportunity to talk to my Vet about this subject. His recommendation to me at the time was to set up an account at the bank with a couple hundred dollars or so in it, and deposit the monthly insurance premiums into the account. He mentioned a few of his patients caregivers had run into troubles with the insurance company and hadn't received the monies that they had expected to receive from the insurance companies. As he said, in this way, if your animal is relatively healthy for its life time you will end up with a tidy sum of cash in the bank. I would have to assume by the looks of it, things haven't changed much over time. |
