$500 reward for clues about Ottawa dog death

A dead dog covered in feces was found leashed in an Ottawa stairwell eight days ago, and now the local humane society is offering a $500 reward for clues about how it got there.

CBC News
The dog, which appeared to be a young male boxer and was tied by a leash to the stairwell railing of a downtown apartment building, was covered in and surrounded by feces when it was found by police on Feb. 18, said a news release issued Monday by the society.

At the time, officers were in the building at 340 Gloucester St. investigating a break-and-enter in the garage.

"There were signs the dog had scratched at the walls and the doorway, so it was obviously suffering and panicked," humane society investigator Tim Brown said in a statement.

According to the society, the dog likely died of starvation or dehydration, as it did not appear sick.

The humane society put up posters in the building where the dog was found asking for information.

The $500 reward is available for anyone who provides information leading to criminal charges of animal cruelty.
