How long does it take for wet food to go bad?
Hi Guys,
I was wondering if someone could tell me how long wet cat food can last at room temperature.. ? I usually refrigerate it, but my cats seem to prefer it when its at that room temperature.. PS: Also I have it covered with a cap if that makes a difference.. |

Are you talking about when you put it down for them to eat or are you talking about leftovers in a can? Put down for cats to eat can be 12 hours or so before replacing. Leftovers should never be left in the original can as once opened the metals inside the can may react with the food. You can refrigerate in a plastic container and, when ready to serve, put in microwave for 10 to 15 seconds to bring it to room temp for the picky kitties.

Be careful when microwaving though! Always stick your finger in various areas of the food to ensure it didn't get too hot. The first time I microwaved my kitties food, I did it for 10 seconds and was suprised to feel that it was VERY hot in some parts when I took it out!
I've heard various things about how long food can last when refridgerated. I usually toss it if it's been in there for more than 4 days. Rarely does a can of food ever last that long with my kitties though! haha |

I know I know.. thread kind of old.. but for other googlers:
Rather than microwaving, store the food in a ziplock bag and when you need it thaw it in warm water. It warms up pretty fast and then you don't have to fondle the food so much checking for hot spots because the temp of the food will be fairly even. |

I just empty what I don't use into a small tupperware container and leave it on the counter overnight and I've never had any problem.
