Horse Rescue

Does anyone know of any horse rescues in Ontario or Quebec even, aside from OSAS ( Ontario Standardbred) or Heaven can Wait?
There used to be S.A.D ( Save a Draft) but they seem to have closed down.

Here it is: www.refugerr.org
RR is a very well known shelter and has been around for years.

When mine passed away (my avatar) he was well into his thirties. His previous owner gave him to me when she ran out of time with her expanding brood of children. He is still here resting under the ground in his paddock. I miss him so much
The oldies are so sensible and experienced. Hey, maybe the refuge sponsorship program sounds like a good idea for this sad horseless woman. I'm going to bounce it off of hubby.

Oh, for sure. When I see the neglected, worn out and used up older horses that are being "disposed" of, I just start to cry.
It rips my heart out.

It saddens me too how those oldies can offer so many years of such great work and pleasure to people to just be tossed aside because now they look towards their people for some of what they have given for 20 years.
My old man has bad hooves, and I mean bad. Contracted, twisted soft hooves. He costs me far more than the rest of them for his extra care and suppliments but he is such a soulful old guy who you just know never hurt a fly in his life.
He needs regular massages as well to keep him moving well but these are the sort of things the people who enjoyed him in his prime should be giving him, but its just easier to toss them away and start over with a youngster again.

Thing with horses is that it is more acceptable in the horse world to dispose of them. I can't even begin to count how many times I have heard " He/She keeps bucking me off, they're good for the trainer but not me, I'm sending him/her to the auction"
I'm not even going to discuss the amount of time I got bucked off by my horses or even the amount of times they decided to turn on a dime but I wasn't sitting properly and I stayed right there ( sans horse) but on the ground.
Sometimes horses and riders are not good fits... Me and Beauty for example, after our first ride together and the attack from those 2 stallions there was no getting either one of us back from that if we were together. She has a great new home and her and her new owner work wonderfully together. We did up a contract during the sale that if she could no longer keep her I have first dibs on her. I will take her back, but she would just be a pasture pet. I bring out the worst in her and her in me as far as a riding team.

I also understand sometimes you start off with a "bombproof" (term I disagree with) been there done that horse and your level exceeds that of your horse and it is time to move on to another, but I dont understand how people can just dispose of that horse that got them to where they are so easily.

Horse world is a whole other world.

Dont even get me started on breeding... sheesh.
