Found Cat Gananoque Landon Bay Ontario

Found cat in the Landon Bay area. This cat has been around since the neighbourhood since the summer.

I will be attempting to trap him/her this weekend.

Must be able to ID a distinguishing mark that this kitty has.

This is a sweet kitty that neighbours have been talking about all summer. He/she just started coming to my deck a week ago.

Starting tonight the food will be placed at the back of the trap. I wanted to make sure the kitty was comfy around the trap before placing the food inside.

I just hope he/she doesn't meet the same fate as Misty before I trap him.

Jasper is hissing at him so I am assuming it is a male .

Rose is so excited that there maybe another kitty to play with , she just loves watching him .

Sweet Pea said he can come in as long as he doesn't eat any food

Puddles has told him that there are all ready three too many kitties in the house so find another place .

He has been hanging out in our backyard all day.

There is some Tuna Almo on his dinner plate at the back of the cage

I thought I had found his owners. There was a lost cat ad at my vets that I was looking at yesterday. Very close but not their cat .

Well you are right, no problem getting him in the trap, but the trap doesn't close

Does anybody know why it doesn't close?

Without seeing pics of how you have the trap set up (without the towel on it) I can't say for sure. When you set it does the trip plate come up? Do you have the bar set under the trip plate so that when it is stepped on it sets off the mechanism? Also, how big is the dish you have in to feed the kitty? If it is too big it may get caught under the trip plate which will not let the plate come down far enough to set off or to be effective. Is there any way he maybe isn't putting his feet on the trip? Maybe he is reaching over and grabbing the food without activating the trip.
Can you take pics of it from the side view and then maybe we can figure it out for you. Without the towel of course.

Thank you for replying. I didn't want to bother you with all that you have on your plate

Here are the pics of exactly how the food was placed when the kitty was in the trap. Nothing has been moved except the towel. He managed to do this twice.

DH tried to get him inside our screen in deck last night where it would be warmer, but he wouldn't come inside

This morning he stayed right on the deck with me and started to come towards me when he realized I had food in my hand

Gotcha, I moved the "hook" so now the end is just barely under the bar that is holding the "hook" in place. That will make it much more sensitive to closing.

And placed fresh food in, of course.

You can do a test to see if the trap is set properly by sticking something (a stick or pole) in the side and pushing down on the trip plate. If the plate goes down easily and it activates then it is set right. If not it needs to be fine tuned.

It could also be kitty is a very smart dude and knows not to step on the plate. If he has been trapped before they tend to do that. If it happens again you could try to put a small amount of food right under the trip plate so he needs to go to the small side of the trap to get the food. There is a better chance of him tripping it that way. Does that make sense or am I rambling?

Good luck catching him. He's very handsome.

It is tripping very easily. I'll try putting some food on some tinfoil under the plate.

Where are you located. Saw a missing cat sign in Sharon Ontario. It was a black and white cat but I didn't read the details.

Wow, what a talker . Poor guy, is so scared. He hurt his nose on the trap trying to get out . Sweet Pea is having a fit. Don't know what Jasper is going to do.

Awwww, the poor little guy is so scared and hiding in the bathroom .

I just thought of something. What if this is a momma I will have to release her:sad: But how do I check , the kitty is soooo scared. Jasper is howling outside the door now, Sweet Pea is guarding her food dish and Rose is indifferent. Puddles won't come out of our bedroom. She is pretty good about new cats as long as she doesn't see them.

Can you try spending a while with the kitty just sitting and watching? Maybe having a few toys, string whatever to interest him/her a little that s/he will want to investigate. If s/he gets close enough you may have to scruff him quickly to check for extended teats. You will be able to see that quickly. I know it's not the best way to get off on the right foot with kitty but it's necessary. I wouldn't worry about checking for sex right now until the kitty has settled a bit.
Congrats and thank you for trapping and looking after a new one. I'm sure given some time s/he will settle for you. They usually do.
Oh, and wear gloves!

Just took a quick peek at the first pic you posted. It does not look to me like there are signs of any nursing but the picture is slightly blurred. Maybe you have one that will show a little better? Or, when you go to spend some time with kitty take your camera down with you and snap away.

Kitty is hiding in the bathtub, but doesn't seem so stressed when I go in now. I will give him/her some more time to settle in, then spend more time.

My gut is that this is a male.

Jasper won't leave the kitty's door. They are talking to eachother, not in a growly way, but just chatting. He/she wants out so bad

After he meows, he licks his lips and swallows. How would you interpret that? Aggressive? Scared?

He hasn't eaten anything.

I have put a small tennis ball with a rattle in it, a catnip stuffie and a fluffy ball with tinfoil in it for krinkle sounds.

He is back in the bathtub. He ate a bit of food . He doesn't like kibble.

Jasper won't leave the door and is being very vocal (not aggresive vocals), should I leave him there?

Am on my way grocery shopping so he will have a bit of peace. No humans in the room every five minutes .

Awww, his little nose isn't too bad. I've seen lots worse. It will heal in a few days. He doesn't look too old, does he?
I'd let Jasper stay where he is. He will work his magic I'm sure. Has Jasper sprayed? That is something he normally does with intact males, isn't it?
The licking lips and swallowing is usually a sign of nervousness. Kitty is saying "I'm not sure what's going on and if I'm safe". Hopefully he will figure it out soon.
He has landed in a good place.
Has he got a little blankie in the bathtub to lie on? That may help a bit if he insists the tub is where he is staying. Let's hope he doesn't use it for a litter box though.
chico - Tux is still around. We know that. And my little tuxedo girl is only on loan till she gets fixed. Then she goes back to the woman who brought her to me.

L4H he/she is cute! The licking of the lips and swallowing I would interpret as stress...once he relax's a bit I think that will stop. Maybe with the kitty meowing at the door he is frightened...because he cant see the other kitty. Do you have a carrier you could put in the bathroom? he may be going in the tub in an effort to hide? so a carrier may make him feel more comfy!

Good luck with this kitty! I know you will be successful!
