OMG the gas
okay, so - Toby seems otherwise healthy and his poops seem normal, so I am at a loss as to why these days his gas has gotten 110% worse than normal!! Is it time to change his food?? He is knocking us out with the stench!!!!

Nice to see you TMac !
Could it be related to him having the need to get his anal glands emptied ? |

Jaida had wicked-bad broccoli farts until we learned about crap food (we were feeding Purina) and switched all the animals onto Orijen. No more farts.

How long has this been going on? I know around here, spring can be the season for campyllobactor and coccidia...and symptoms of both of those can be fart-aciousness Worms are another possibility. Might not be a bad idea to have some stool checked at the vet.
If that checks out okay, maybe he is developing an intolerance to something in his food?

heh heh...good posts everyone!
He has been on Fromm Adult (the purple bag) since he became an adult so nothing has changed there. I don't *think* he has eaten anything bad lately and he has been cut off the current batch of treats just in case (poor guy). I know the purists would not necessarily choose Fromm but its better than the average sack of food and the nutritional contents are good (see Fromm thread way back in the food section)...none of the usual evils in there. Is it possible to get more gassy from a decrease in exercise? Since the baby has come he hasn't gone on any mountain hikes. I've got a few more snaps of the pooch and baby together but they haven't made it to my computer yet... TMac

I would think lack of exercise would change his digestion/metobolism...I don't know about the toots tho...I know a good hard play always speeds things up, not sure of the opposite...
Age too - in relation to digestion...how old is Toby now? The breed is also very sensitive to routine and emotion...but they have garbage guts...thats tricky if you are sure he's not in to anything... (I am picture Dazy now - dirty diaper stuffed up under her jowls )

My extremely healthy (I hope!) soon to turn 4 American Eskimo has been fed Fromms Four Star since he was 10 months old. He was/is on the Salmon A La Veg but last week we bought him the Duck with Sweet Potato (supposedly and the company did confirm that you can switch among the 4 varieties in the Four Star group without undue horrors - unless dog has an excessively sensitive stomach). But just to be safe we did use a mix of the Salmon and the Duck for a few days. He loves the Duck, but then he also loves the Salmon - heck he loves everything except parsnips - one fell as I was chopping it. Prior to being put on the Fromms Four Star we were thinking Digestive Enzyme - no longer an issue! But there are some vegetables that can apparently cause gas in some dogs to differing degrees - green beans, apples etc. - each to his own I guess and personal digestive system. Hope you isolate the problem. I actually had read about the Fromms on the Eskie site then realized my guy's groomer sells it - and a lot of it. Not so easy to find in Toronto, but getting easier - particularly since it wasn't on the recall list, thankfully.
