Raccoon trouble

We have coons in our backyard and now they are getting into our garbage. I do not want to hurt them but no matter what, they find a way to get into it. Any suggestions on how I can deter them to leave my property alone?

I could do that I guess. It would be pretty simple. I have some wood and it would not take too much. I will have to see what I can come up with.

I would not made it too simple, raccoons are good at opening things up like this raccoon was able to do.

I hate these bandits they infest if not controlled. I lost my turtles to these greedy eaters. I had to call Hawkeye Birds & Animals Control Specialists to get rid those coons.

I saw an ad for trash bag that smelled like mint to keep raccoon away from the trash cans . Mothballs are very toxic , it would be best to tape them inside of the covers so they can't get into the soil.

Pine Sol works very well as they dont like the smell.Moth balls are too toxic and can lead to future problems.

I know this is an old thread but you really need to made sure not put anything out that harmful to pets and wildlife and the water supply. Mothballs is illegal to use outside in some states or cities so you need to check online and see that the rule is for your town or city.
