A journey . . . . and a visitor

Still snowy white up in the mountains, another visit to Upper Kananaskis Lake in K-Country, southwestern Alberta yesterday.

This actually turned pretty balmy and I was marching around in a T-shirt.

Below, Keeper takes on some snow for cooling down (I do carry water and food for them) . . . . .

Below, this placid scene disguises a lot of activity right at this moment. Abby pushes her ears forward as she listens to a coyote howling ahead of her, a coyote that came into view running along the lakeshore only a few minutes later. Simultaneously, there was jet engine-like roar coming from the mountain ahead as snow avalanches were coming down. Behind Abby, out of view, there was a crashing as a rock avalanche came off yet another mountain. The jumble we are standing on that extends down into the valley is from a big avalanche off the same mountain about 100 years ago. We were hiking to the headwaters of the Kananskis River . . . .

Below, Upper Kananaskis Lake . . . . . we encountered a couple of young ladies jogging through the snow, making a round of the lake which is 17.4 km. I'd run 33 km the day before, prepping for an upcoming marathon so it was all I could do to walk this day!!! The coyote was yowling and running along the lakeshore below, it's howls providing a surreal backdrop in this setting.

Below, at home, Abby is pursued by Sally, from Saskatchewan, a visitor. The snow on our place is virtually all gone, except for a few shadowy pockets, and the grass is greening. But the leaves are late this year.

Below, Sally . . . . . a cross between a chow and a Sheltie and an owner surrender who has a lot of energy.

I don't normally think of a mountain vista as being noisy...looks like Abby was surprised, too!

The shot of Keeper getting some refreshments is breathtaking! So much subtle color from blue to green to reds...

Sally is a gorgeous girl--I love the shot of her pursuing Abby across the yard.

More from today . . . . .

Sally did a lot of exploring . . . . .

Below, there was a bit of a domination struggle, but Abby won the stare downs when Sally, the much younger and energetic dog, got too uppity . . . .

. . . . . while Keeper was just kind of confused by the whole thing.

Below, in the end, Abby and Keeper have a tight bond . . . .

Rick, I'm sure you've heard this many times but your pictures are absolutely stunning.

So...what's with the equipment? Do you use a good old fashion SLR or a new high tech digital SLR?

Just curious

Sally looks like she's making herself right at home. Is she a foster, Rick? (do tell )

I love the look on Keeper's face when she's watching Sally! And Abby and Keeper's united front

I use a Nikon D80 digital with an 18-70 zoom and a 70-300 zoom . . . . or, on holidays, an inexpensive Sony Cybershot to stuff in my pocket . . . . the Cybershot has actually had a picture in Photo Life Magazine and won a few awards. Equipment doesn't have to be important.

Sally was the property of an 80 year-old fellow but was too high energy, so now she's adopted Carol's brother Don, and they live in Viscount, Saskatchewan. They are visiting for the weekend.

Stunning photos - the dogs are beauties, love Sally. Beautiful scenery - you are lucky with snow still on the mountains. Our Scottish mountains have lost most of their snow hats!!

How long ago was the Photo Life Magazine Cybershot picture?

We have a nice good old fashion Pentax SLR with a few different lenses and filters. It was my husband's hobby and he has a great eye for photography too.

As for myself--a simple Kodak or our Olympus digital, point & click camera is good enough for me

Just love your pictures. Sally even has the same sort of colouring as your two. Love the pic of confused Keeper.
