No News! We went up to the Barrie/Orillia area and hunted all weekend but
nothing. I went with another lady who has two shepherd/labs lost as
well in that area that went missing from a new adopted family. She runs
a rescue in Oshawa and the dogs had only been with the new family four days when they went missing and in the same area as Sable was last seen.
Hers went missing Jan. 12/07.
What wonderful news on Maddie!!!!! You don't know what hope that gives me to think that if one dog could survive this awful winter then perhaps mine has too.
Could you let me know the details on where they found Maddie...did someone have him or ??????
We won't give up. Thanks for all the support.
Shirley

Shirley,I am sorry you still did not find Sable, but look at Maddie, she was lost at a time when it was the coldest and survived to run away again and be found again
So please don't give up on finding Sable,in my heart I know you never will and I you'll one day have him back again

No I won't give up...it was Maddie that gave me so much hope...I can't seem to find out how or where they found her when she was out in the horrible month of February.

I would have loved to adopt the dog from Montreal but this is my son's soul mate and he isn't ready to give up or give his heart away again yet.

WE have had another call today someone thinks she saw Sable...it is the
same person who confirmed a sighting back in November just between
Orillia and Coldwater where we have had numerous sightings last fall...so maybe.

Shirley,I would tell you if I knew the circumstances around Maddies capture, but I don't:sad:
There are people here who know, but they are not always on the Forum.
I know everything was tried, including a humane trap with food and she survived the coldest period of the year,somehow..
I wish people if they see Sable would try to catch him with some food and then call you, would that not be great, that will happen very soon!

The lady who called that thought she saw Sable yesterday, said she
called him and he was coming to her but a car came up the road and he
bolted. She went immediately and called the OSPCA in Orillia and then
followed where he went. He went down a dead end road and thru a fence
She went out onto the road where he would have come out and saw
footprints but they he went into a bush area and she couldn't track him.
The OSPCA drove around for quite some time but couldn't see him. Problem is
I am at least 80 minute drive to this area so he is always long gone.
OSPCA said if we can find where he is for a few days they will try the
live trap but this is the first sighting we have had in almost two weeks.
In the 7 months he has been missing I have made at least75 trips to
Orillia (got a new car in Oct. and have over 50,0000 kms. on it)
I am going back up to make sure all my flyers are still up in that area and
give more out to the neighbors and have put the ad back in the Orillia paper
for the weekend. I am at a lose what else to do. Driving around looking
seems fruitless.

I'm sure you have been getting lots of advice on how to capture Sable and I'm not sure if this was already suggested: The woman who had called you yesterday said that she followed him but was unable to track him. How about have him track her. If she's willing, she could sparsely lay a trail of food from where she last saw his prints to where she first saw him with a pile of food at the end. It may sound a little far fetched but this worked for me many years ago when I used to live on a farm and my cat got lost in the woods. We had not seen her for a couple of weeks but did see kitty prints in the snow. The first several times, she ate the food along part of the track but we never saw her. After a week or so, she finally followed the trail of food right home.

Just an idea. I hope you'll be reunited soon.

Shirley,I am glad the OSPCA is also keeping an eye out for him
7 months is a long time, but people might have been feeding him at times,or he was able to catch his own food..
I believe you driving around looking for him at this point might be fruitless, but I can understand if you do,I probably would do the same.
You don't know if he is constantly moving,or if he is staying put in a safe place, has he been spotted in the same area more than once???
I know I am always looking and would try to catch a stray animal, but not everyone feels this way, unfortunately:sad:
Still, there are enough good people out there, like the lady who called and I still have great hopes Sabel will be found

I was so hoping this was the best news possible. That he has been seen by someone who cared enough to follow up and the active interest the OSPCA has taken is of course goods news but what heartache. My heart really goes out to you Shirley.

Shirley--I am so very sad:sad: to be reading about your poor Sable--my heart goes out to you. I am in the Beaverton area and my girlfriend lives on Lake Dalrymple, and shops in Orillia, I sent her a link to this forum so she could see what Sable looks like, we will both be watchin for him and we he makes it home to you.

Thanks for all your support..this site has been so kind to me during this
period.
The lady who saw Sable yesterday, has seen him before back in early
November. He has been in this area off an on since November..the last
sighting was in late January before the really bad weather hit and we
haven't heard much since then. There are a LOT of wild turkeys in this area so I'm sure he has a his share.

Sable was in Beaverton back in the first week of Sept. but for some reason he decided to go north, if he had kept on coming south he'd have been home months ago.

The suggestion to have him track the lady from Orillia is an excellent one.
She said she was away today but there we fresh footprints under her
front window and along a snowbank. I will go up tomorrow and give her
some food to bait him with. She is such a nice lady and will do anything to
help catch him. Thank you so much for the suggestion.

The OSPCA does have a special interest in Sable. The animal control gals
have taken a real interest in finding him. The Orillia paper has done a couple of front page stories on him and I think they understand the publicity they can get from his capture.

Shirley, it's so nice to hear that the OSPCA is being so supportive in finding Sable. And, hugs to the lady that has been so helpful in trying to track him.

Luckypenny's idea of using food for Sable to follow is an excellent one. I hope it works and that you are re-united soon. Lots of good vibes coming your way.

No Sable

Went to Orillia area today...but no Sable. Just before I got
back home my son had a call from a man at Bass Lake who says
he has seen him several times in the past few days and has tried
to catch him but he keeps bolting on him.
He said he saw him last fall as well and saw him crossing Bass Lake
back in the winter time.
At least the sightings from the past week are in the same area so
we will keep looking.

Sorry you had no luck today Shirley, but those sighting must keep your hope alive and strong.

It really sounds like you are getting close.

What if you just sat and waited where the man has seen Sable? Do you think if he saw you he could let you catch him?

Shirley,if this man could put out food regularly, maybe he would gain Sabels trust,or did he try that already??
The fact he is staying in the same area is encouraging, somebody might already be feeding him and does not know you are looking for him.
I always check"lost-posters"but not everybody does..

Thanks for your ongoing concern. We had another call today from
the same area and the SPCA was called but I don't know how they
made out. I will call when they open Thurs. morning at 11.
I think as well he is at least staying in a relatively small area now and we might have a chance to get him.
Also there is a paper that comes out "the North Simcoe News" which goes to every house in Oro-Medonte twp. (where he has been seen) and to the north in Severne Twp. and it goes out by mail so that may reach someone that
I haven't been able to with the ads I have been running.
At least with the warmer weather he seems to be out and being seen which is a good sign.

It must be frustrating getting so close yet not quite close enough. Does the man that just called you live close to the woman that was going to try baiting him? Does she still see Sable?
