my Boston woke up and can't get up
My 6 yr old boston woke up this morning with some yelps in pain and couldn't get out of bed. Once I picked him up and stood him up he could barely walk. His head was turned to left and slumped down while slowly trying to walk. He is going to the wash room and eating OK. This happend over night. I took him to the vet but the time i got him there the symptoms were gone. We came home he layed down for a nap and woke up in the same state again. Anybody seen this before? The vet checked his rear legs which seem to be the problem but nothing!

Oh, sounds scary Are his eyes going back and forth or up and down? Could be Vestibular Disease. Could be disc disease too.
Odd that the vet did not find anything Keep an eye on him today and call the vet to say symptoms have reappeared. Good luck and keep us posted. Very odd.

I recommend getting a second opinion, not being able to walk and head tilted sideways are symptoms that should be investigated. If it were my dog i would call another vet to see what they think. good luck!

No problem with his eyes, the vet thinks his adrenaline from being at the vet temporarily relieved the symptoms. Is there anything specific I should ask the vet to look at. He is not in pain as he sleeps.

I would ask for blood test first. If it is neurological , your dog will need an MRI to know what's wrong.

I would have thought a vet would investigate this by running some tests (a blood test for starters like Frenchy mentioned) -- I am surprised the vet just sent you home without digging further into this.

do not give your dog over the counter medications. you really should take your dog to a vet.

do not ever give your dog any medication without the guidance of a vet -- it can be deadly.
I wouldnt be going back to the same vet rather would try another one for a new opinion -- you should have to 'tell' your vet what tests to run for this, the vet should be the one that knows and directs this. I recommend a second opinion from a different vet.

Scary! I also can't believe the vet didn't look into it further. If I were in your position I would see the emergency vet for sure.
Do not ever give dogs regular Tylenol (acetaminophen) or advil/aleve (ibuprofen) as it is poisonous. Also, give your dog over the counter medication, even stuff that is "safe" for pets, can be dangerous because you do not know the dosage, and if your dog needed surgery or some sort of medication from the vet, they may have to wait up to 72hrs to perform the procedure/give the med, due to reactions to over the counter meds. |

I agree with everyone's advice and would take your dog to a different vet. Good luck and please keep us posted.

Didn't the vet say anything. If said "Never seen what you've described before?" or "Dunno. ", and that was it, then for sure another opinion is necessary especially if this happened again which is how it sounds from your post.
I might be worried about a mini seizure or stroke but the stroke may be the lesser concern—Boston terriers live 15~17 years so he's pretty young. http://www.dogluvers.com/Boston-Terrier.html My dog has woken up startled and didn't seem quite normal for a moment or two but then was fine. Could an intensive dream or something be the point; but you seemed to indicate it happened again after you returned form the vet? Good luck with your quest. The stress can be overwhelming.
