Need a new pet food
I didn't want to steal anyone elses thread but I need some help finding a new cat food. That recall has scared me too much.
Thing is I have two 4 month old kittens, an 8 month old kitten and a 1 year 3 month old cat. They are all small, Socks (on my display picture) is only 7 pounds. They eat alot.. but I need a food that is good for cats and kittens. And that can be bought in large bags and wetfood that can be bought in pouches. I can't use canned food because I get cut by them stupid poptops too much. Can anyone help me out? I've seen so many different brands listed and people arguing over what's good and whats not. I'm looking for a particular brand that can meet my needs and I don't know where to start :P |

Thanks I've seen that one a few times and it looks like a good choice.
I'm still looking for a pouch catfood thought. I can't count how many times I've tried to pop the poptop and its sliced my finger I'm clumsy :P |

I honestly don't think I've seen a pouched cat food that had any quality to it. I'd try the Felidae and buy a can opener & gloves

hm okay Or I'll just have my mom open the cans from now on. The 13 oz can of Felidae looks like the perfect size to feed 4 hungry mouths. I think I'll try that brand since its got the 20lb bags and the 13 oz cans.
After reading what really goes into pet food im just soo grossed out. I'ma vegetarian myself and just reading that stuff about roadkill and diesesed animals being able to be put into cat and dog food.. ewww -barf-. Thanks though. I'll give those brands a shot. My cats are too important to be fed crap. |

Hmm, I'm not sure if this would work, but could you not use the pop top, and instead use a can opener to open the can on the bottom (so the can is upside down). I know you can get can openers that don't make sharp edges. Might be worth it for you!

Just to let everyone know I switched to Felidae. My moms not thrilled on the price but she said it's fine because that whole report on the news about what really goes into pet food grossed her out too. We are going to keep them on an all natural diet from now on .. except for an occasional treat from Friskies or Meow Mix. They love them tooooo darn much for me to take them away.
Thanks for the advice everyone. (p.s. i like the fact the canned food doesn't seem to have a smell to it. like its not as funky smelling as other canned foods) |

Felidae is a really good choice. I don't know what you were feeding before but if it wasn't a premium/holistic food then even though the Felidae is more expensive, you will be feeding less. Also, your kitties will be healthier so fewer visits to the vet.
Also, I would stop feeding the Friskies/ Meow Mix treats in light of the recent recall. I know they are not on the list but better to be safe than sorry until everything is cleared up. |

It's not wet food, don't worry. It's them treats. They aren't affected. They were on sale a few weeks ago so I stocked up and plus my cats are totally addicted to them.
But yes I've checked and have been feeding them barely any of the treats untill further notice. I was feeding them purina kitten chow before and then 9lives, friskies or whiskas canned/pouched. They liked the felidae though. |
