Cat food

Hey gang, my two cats are hooked on Fancy Feast. I'm trying to get them on something healthier, but I'm not having much luck. I've been trying to get them to switch to wellness, but it's not working. I've been trying to mix 1/2 and 1/2, even 3/4 FF and 1/4 wellness.... when the wellness is in there, they dont eat it. Anyone able to recommend another healthy brand? I've been buying MERRICK and they seem to not mind it as much... they're picking at it at least.n any other brands i could try? I'm in Canada, not sure if that makes a difference what brands are available here. I buy my pet food from Global Pet Food

Mine are finicky too...they can't stand Wellness or raw (tried yesterday and they wouldn't touch it) I mixed FF with EVO (they like duck especially), but alas they picked through it. I have ended up giving them FF for breakfast and EVO for dinner...I can't find EVO in any fish variety hence the FF...doesn't seem to affect their system any...everyone is regular and smelling like roses LoL!

I feel your pain, trust me, it took many tears to get Puddles to change from FF to Wellness, now will eat raw .

I ended up sprinkling pulverized Real Food Toppers (Salmon) on her Wellness, as she was a fish flavoured FF addict. At first I mixed it with her Wellness then progressed to a sprinkle, to nothing. Patience, patience, patience.

You may also have success by mixing her FF with Wellness 75-25, then slowly decreasing the amount of FF.

I can tell you there is a HUGE difference in Puddles since switching her to a quality canned. You will be happy you did too.

I find getting cats to change food is like getting a child who was brought up on candy to start eating veggies . They don't know what is best for them, so they want what tastes best.

Patience, and then more patience, is the word of the day when switching a cat's diet. They tend to be mighty suspicious of new foods (a defense mechanism to avoid eating something toxic) so your job is to gradually get them accustomed to the unfamiliar smells/tastes/textures of the new food. I would start with even less Wellness, like no more than a tsp. Thoroughly mix it in with their old food. After they've been eating that for a few days, make it 2 tsps of Wellness. And so on. If at any point they refuse to eat it, go back to the previous amount that they were eating and stay the course for even longer. It can be done! Just be prepared to possibly throw out some food (or you can freeze the leftover Wellness in icecube trays). And have patience! Love4himies is right, it's like getting junk-food-kids to eat their broccoli.
