Do companies like Purina or Del-monte use dead cats in foods?

Hello Guys - Do companies like Purina or Del-monte use dead cats or dogs in their foods? I was browsing around and was kinda shocked at what people are saying and would like to know if it's true or not?

If true, do grain-free companies do the same? Hope someone can clarify

Thanks!

I heard that Iams grind live baby chicken for it food. What I do not like is the commercials for pets food on TV. You can tell the animals are not fed the way they gulp down the food so fast. The poor dog or cat can't eat the food fast enough and that mean they not had been fed for awhile. My pets never eat their food that fast. A lot pet food is made with byproduct and that can any part of an animals .

I have heard that... I honestly dont know if its true, but I also wouldnt be surprised if it was. Like barkingdog said, they use whole animals. I believe it was 1983 when the FDA approved the term "meat meal" which is every part of the animal, nails, feathers, etc.

Have you tried emailing the companies about the foods you're interested in, Yamcha? If you ask them directly if they use euthanized cats and dogs or if they use 4-D meat, you should get a straight yes or no answer. If they hedge, dodge, or otherwise divert from the question, it would certainly make me very suspicious about the protein sources they use...

I'm awaiting a real response. Because I didn't get a straight answer, it also makes me a bit suspicious. Will keep everyone updated..

You know, I was actually just reading an article from Spain, where a company in under investigation as dog DNA was found, not only on their Pet food, but also farm animal feed

I can't find the actual article in english, but I found this one

My brother once went to a hotdog factory and he told our mother if she when she would never eat another hotdog again. So it would not suspires me at if it was true about pet food having dog and cat meat , I heard of horses being used in dog food. there is a coat store in my state that got busted for selling coats made out of cats fur. The store claims that did not know the fur was cat fur. RIGHT!

This is a great question. I was just reading an excerpt in a book that I have had for quite a few years, and it answers some of the questions. It states: (In Canada, it is legal to use euthanized pets in pet food products produced by rendering plants. However, rendering of companion animals in Canada is on a much smaller scale than the practice in the United States. But nonetheless the practice is still legal in Canada too.) The name of the book I am quoting from is "Food Pets Die For" and the author is Ann N. Martin of London, Ontario. She has done a lot of research into the pet food industry secretive operations and the art of keeping the truth away from John Doe public in respects to what goes into our pet foods. From my point of view, this book is a must read for anyone who has a companion animal and has any respect for what they feed it.

It will be interesting to see what you receive as a reply from Delmonte in regards to your question. Knowing the way the system is set up I would expect them to deny it. They only have to tell you what they have put in the pet food themselves. If they have purchased a finished product from a rendering plant (animal fat) all they have to do is mention the finished product. They will play ignorant to knowing what's in the product, or what the other manufacturer is using to make the product. That's basically what happened to Menu Foods a few years ago when the Chinese producer added melamine to a product in order to get a higher protein level in the product for Menu Foods.

I am enclosing a website that has an excerpt from the book "FOOD PETS DIE FOR". It's worth the read, and personally I would suggest getting the book. If you read the book, you will really see the problems she had getting information, and how secretive the industry is.

I have the 2nd edition, and there is a 3rd edition that Ann has published in, I think 2008, which I plan on purchasing, to see what's new.

Hope this helps or sheds a wee bit of light on this very important subject.
