So cold outside my dog won't pee :-(
So I'm sure everyone is feeling these frigid temps we've been having in Ontario this week. I feel so bad for our pets who we have to take outside! I have two dogs, one male and one female. The male is okay, I can tell he is cold but he'll do his business pretty easily. The female, however, will not pee. The last time she went was yesterday morning, despite several trips outside and wearing her coat. I finally got her to poop last night after walking around my apartment building for about 20 minutes but she still wouldn't pee! Again, this morning nothing.
I don't think she's gone anywhere in the apartment; at least I haven't seen or smelled it if she has. I may get home to a puddle today and if I do oh well. But does anyone have any tips as to how I can make it easier for her (aside from melting the snow somehow!). She likes snow but not this frozen ground crap! |

Does she have a coat and some booties? Some dogs don't tolerate boots, but if she can get used to them, it might really help.
Our Grace is a little put off by the temps, too. If it's -20°F or below, she doesn't want to go out at all. I just keep telling her to 'potty' and we stay out till she does--she's gotten to the point now where she knows I mean it and she doesn't dilly-dally.... She doesn't tolerate booties, but she's more willing to go out if I put the dog parka on her.

I been doing through this with my small dog. I took him out today to do some errands and we did not walk a lot but he was shaking and Marty had a coat on too, he had no interest I trying to pee. He just wanted to get into the car back home. I have to wait till Marty really need to pee or poop then take him out. I found trying to get boots on him to be a pain, it took too long with the fur he has.

I agree with the coat and boots suggestions.
If she doesn't go soon, you may want to get her into the vet just to be sure nothing medical is going on. |

Hi all, thanks for the responses! She's been better lately and it's been milder so the ground is less frozen. She's just a princess!
