RIP my Anglo-Arab Beauty...

26 years ago I bought a horse going to slaughter. She was wild, yet timid and had no handling. She was gangly, young and had alot of spirit despite where she was...her eyes spoke volumes...she would be mine.

Her and I travelled from Ontario to Alberta. We had many wonderful ventures in the woods and picnics by the water. I spent time on the ground as well...she was a pistol. She let my young child then ride her, and she took quiet gentle steps with caution and care. She new that my child was young.

Once I was notified that I was to leave Alberta and move to Quebec, I could not take her back with me as the boarding costs were impossible to pay. I was very lucky as a childhood friend that I grew up with asked me if he could have her...for his wife. An agreement was made that regardless of the circumstances, she was never go to slaughter. We hugged and I bid a fairwell to my dearest friend, but I knew that she would be loved and safe.

I got a call that she has passed at the age of 28. She was surrounded by her loving people and her boyfriend, a quarter horse by her side. The vets felt that it was important that he be there as their bond was tight. He nuzzled her and stayed by her side.

Her name was Jessie. She touched the hearts of many and started a remarkable change of lifestyle to her people. Due to her wonderful dispostion and spirit, they were overwhelmed with how wonderful, intelligent, gentle the giants are. They started to save other horses, and provide safe haven for others in need.

She will be sadly missed. I know my life as of this morning has changed tremendously...I am not the same person I was yesterday. I have lost a piece of myself as no other animal ever touched me the way she did.

RIP my dear soulmate. I will love you forever and ever. I will see you again, as I ride you over the bridge.

I love you.

BenMax, I'm sorry for your loss. Horses are the most magnificent animals on this earth in my opinion. Their beauty is surpassed by no other animal. They can be such loving and gentle creatures.

You saved her and because of that she had a long and wonderful life, that reached others.

Jessie

BenMax so sorry to hear of your loss. Jessie was your first rescue I guess, but not your last. And as was said, she opened the door for others to be rescued also. RIP sweet Jessie.

Thank you all so much. I had to write a little about her as she was very important to me. I have so many wonderful stories and memories that keep running through my head today. I wish I could speak of them..maybe someday I shall.

My day is very dark today. I cannot explain it, but I am so not together. A few days ago, I had this very stong urge to call...but I couldn't. The call last night was very difficult for my friend and for myself.

My grief really is shared with the quater horse she left behind. He is grieving. I feel so bad for him and by what I was told yesterday - it just reinforces my belief that we have so much to learn from animals.

Again - thank you all for your kind words. I means so very very much to me.

I'm so sorry, Benmax. She sounded amazing... Its always touching to hear the impact that one animal can have on so many people. Its sort of a silent, pay-it-forward thing. Her memory will inspire the future, hopefully for everyone who knows her story.

Thank you for sharing that beautiful love story BenMax. It touched me so dearly. I am hoping that the dear four hooved loved one she left behind can also have some peace with his loss. It amazes me that the connection our animal friends have with us and other animals. We should all learn from them.
I hope you find some peace as well knowing that you gave Jessie a wonderful life and knowing you will again meet.

Dear BenMax, your loss is shockingly painful. What hurts is your love as love does not go away with the death of our friends. They love and trust us, which we do not often deserve. I have been thinking a lot about it - my precious Vasenka the cat died after a surgery on his leg a week ago. We spent less than a month together. I picked him up from the street, he was semi-wild and it was amazing to see how he started to enjoy stroking and getting closer, he learnt his name, played with sewing patterns, cleverly knew I was approaching him to drop in his ears and hid in his 'no touch' den under the chair. It feels he is around. I want to tell you- so good that people like you exist-loving, giving, responsible, feeling. I am far but my good thoughts and compassion are on the way to you and Jessie.

I am so sorry for your loss.

I thank you for your words of comfort.

Thank you everyone for your support. This weekend I remembered her with such fondness. We have wonderful memories of Jessie. I hold them dear as I do all your words, thoughts and gentle reminders that she did indeed have one heck of a life. I pray for all other horses that were not so lucky. I hope that one day the animals that have served mankind for centuries are given the honor that they deserve until their end of days.
