Cat pee here, cat pee there...

Hi

I left my cat at my parents when I moved away. Cat is a 4yo Milo.

He was kastrated at the age of 1yo.

He is trained to use the litterbox, but he constantly goes to pee by the door (around the shoes) and on the carpet that is in the toiler, 10cm away from his litterbox.

And it is fairly annoying.

No medical issues noticable, the vet has checked him, so it can only be mental ?

We used some strong stuff to clean up the shoe area, and the carpet is washed 2-3 times a week because thats how often he does it on the carpeet.

Its like you have to watch him, sometimes he is sniffing around the carpet, then you go and scream "Milo what are you doing??" then he jumps on the litterbox...

Often we catch him around the shoes and then we have to make sounds and then he is like "oops" and runs to the toilet..

What can we do? Its so hard and its so time consuming.

No big changes has happened really, he does it constantly since, well since he was 8months old? Its just constant...

We have tried spraying and washing the crime scenes with some PISS-OFF and it doesnt help.

PLEASE HELP!

Has Milo's urine been tested by the vets lab for crystals or infection?

Most cleaners use ammonia as a base ingredient, it actually smells very much like a component of cat pee, so instead of using those mix 1 cup water 1/4 cup white vinegar 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol spray the affected area & mop up, then spray again and let dry. This will help to elminate the residual smell from the previous times Milo has gone in those areas.

Can you move the shoes in to a closed closet? There may be other animals he is smelling on the shoes.

How often is the litterbox cleaned? It should be done after everytime Milo uses it. Cats don't like to step in used litter. The entire contents should be dumped about once every two weeks, the box fully cleaned & filled with fresh litter.

Can you add a 2nd litterbox? Often cats prefer to have an option on where to go. Is the litterbox you have covered or uncovered? If it is a covered one, try an uncovered box.

Are the shoes just lying around and unorganized? If so, your cat may be smelling another cat or pet on the shoes. Or he may not like the clutter of the shoes. Can you put the shoes into the closet or somewhere put away with a lid or a door? Is the carpet a throw carpet? If it is I think it would be best to throw away. His scent is obviously on the carpet b/c he keeps on sniffing the carpet and peeing on it. How many litterboxes do you have for Milo? He may not like the litterbox being in a high traffic area. Most cats like quiet, private areas to go to the washroom. Can you put another litterbox somewhere much more quiet and secluded? Is the litterbox large enough for Milo to move around in? You can buy a cheap BIG rubbermaid container for the new litterbox. And maybe even change out the old one as well with a rubbermaid container. What type of litter are you using for Milo? he may not like the litter you are using. You can try Dr. Elsey's Cat attract to get him using the litterbox again.
