dog pregnancy
How and when do you know a dog is pregnant. I have been baby sitting my moms dog and I just caught him and my Doggy stuck together lol....They have been around each other before and have never even got on each other. She was in heat last week too. I am nrevous. What do I need to do besides take her to the vet? Do I need to worry about anything or just let nature take its course. Good thing they are both the same breed Shih Tzu so they will be cute puppie! thanks for any help you can give me

Dottie, the world doesn't need any more cute puppies, there are thousands waiting in shelters and being killed for want of a home. Please make an appointment tomorrow to have your dog spayed. She will be much happier and healthier. If you love her, this is the kindest thing you can do. And your mom should have her dog neutered, as well.
PLEASE. Check out this link: http://www.brightlion.com/InHope/InHope_en.aspx Last edited by badger; August 1st, 2007 at 02:58 AM. |

I agree, please take your dog and have her spayed asap. A whole host of fatal cancers can be prevented by spaying your and neutering dogs.

Agreed, both dogs should be fixed...I don't know why you wouldn't have done it by now.

I agree with everyone here. Pregnancy and whelping can have serious complications, you could lose both the mother and the litter, especially if you are inexperienced with breeding dogs. In addition if both the dog and the bitch have not been health tested, they could pass on health problems to their puppies. Even if both adults seem healthy they could have recessive genes, or be "carriers" for various health issues.
And of course the best reason to get the bitch spayed NOW is that by producing a litter, you will undoubtedly be causing the death of dogs in shelters. Say you have 6 puppies. Even if you find "good homes" for all of the puppies, that means there's 6 less homes available for dogs in shelters. That means 6 dogs in a shelter will not find homes. Six dogs will die. It is simple math. There are many, many animals in shelters, and a limited number of adoptive homes. Please go to petfinder.com and look at the amount of shih tzu and shih tzu mixes in shelters (not to mention all the other breeds!) It is absolutely heartbreaking. |

Please convince her owner ( your mom) to have her spayed ASAP.
Also... time for your boy to go in for the "big Snip" Your area alone. http://search.petfinder.com/search/s...x=&location=AZ
