"digging' in wooden floors--nuerotic behavior for a puppy?

We have a lovely 10 month old mutt--adopted her 3 months ago. She is adjusting well (although her older brother, 8 year old street mutt is not that amused). Lucy is quick to learn, eager to play and fun. (She gets two walks each day---one long one of 40-90 minutes and a shorter on in the afternoon).

BUT I am wondering about some of her behavior. She scratches our wooden floors as if digging for something. She has also begun to do odd things with her bowl of food-- sort of digging around in it and pushing the bowl around. And then there is a piece of fabric--meant for dogs to sleep on---she goes NUTS with this. Flings it about and whines etc.

Is this a strange nuerotic behavior or is this just Lucy being Lucy?

My Lhasa digs when he's going to bed, almost like he's making a 'nest' to sleep in. I think it's an instinct thing, like how dogs will dig a hole in the dirt and lay in it to stay cool / warm?

My 2 yo muttie does this too. Has since we brought her home. I don`t know why, but she digs on all sorts of surfaces and seems to have great fun doing it. You`ll want to keep her from digging at carpeted areas though, we`ve found a couple of spots where she`s dug at it enough to wear a hole through. At one time we thought maybe she was smelling mice under the floor & digging for them, but since the mouse problem was resolved (we hope!) she still does it.
