has my cat miscarried? if so what next? - Pet forum for dogs cats and humans

Feb.12,07 Concern about my pregnant cat, 1and a half years old, domestic shorthair,this is her 2nd pregnancy This is all the response i got from the experts at justask.com

MY CONCERN: my pregnant cat is not due until around Feb.26th...she''s cleared off the hair and all that around her teats like she should, but, i''ve been around lots of pregnant cats and i have never ever seen what i just tonight noticed, around her teats theres little scary looking dark brownish/black dots completly surrounding the actual nipples of her teats!??! she''s acting normal and everything but i''ve never seen something that just looks so sickly on an animal...does this being there mean something, is it ever "normal" , what would cause this & how do i make it go away???????
What I've Already Tried:
nothing, i'm afraid to mess w/ it till i know the cause

FROM PETCARE FELINE EXPERT:Are the brownish-black dots flat on her skin surrounding the teats, or are they raised? The dots are not on the nipples themselves, are they?If they're flat, take a slightly moistened white tissue or paper towel, and try wiping them away. Tell me if anything comes off on the tissue.Don't worry, and thanks for your additional detail.

MY RESPONSE:she's not orange, but blondish, and slight patteren but not stipped like tabbies...the bumps are raised and not on her actual protruding nipple, and the teats closer to her tail have much more spots than the teats above until the closer to her head where theres no dots. and i tried wiping like you said, nothing comes off her. this is her 2nd liter, her first litter of babies back in august 07 seemed to be doing fine until at 3 weeks when the 3 died, and at their 3 week mark, her milk was all dried up, shes not a very big cat, and w/ the circumstances of her 1st pregnancy i am extremly concerned for her & the babies. i hope this helps to figure the issue out

FROM PETCARE FELINE EXPERT:From your description, at first I thought it might be one of two conditions, if the bumps were flat, but if the bumps are raised, I'm not sure, so I'll leave your question open for other experts to give their opinions.

MY RESPONSE:the more i look at it the more it appears to be something that is kinda spreading (best way to describe it) up toward her head area, like some kind of bug or parasite of some kind, or, it also does kind of give me the impression that theres no milk for the babies..maybe whats on her could be sucking her dry.....i don't know! I am really worried though and if anyone out there has any input, please, please help me help her...

Today's observation of this Feb.13,07:she's still acting normal, its still there still appears to be spreading toward head but today, unlike last night, the teats, especially the ones that are closest to her tail where theres more dottting, her actual nipples still have nothing on them, but her teats at all, aren't pinkish anymore, nor swelled looking from milk, instead they look whitish/light yellowish and are shriveled up like dried out looking, wrinkled up like raisins i guess is best way to describe, someone please help me with this, any ideas, any suggestions, advice, comments, anything, i don't want to lose her or the kittens...

just my 2 cents , i would take your cat to the vet asap, and after all this get her spayed, there are plenty of kittens right now looking for a home. how come she is on her second litter??? i wish you the best.

mindyhbk1 - welcome to the board, not sure if it's a miscarrage but your next step should be to go to the vet right away!!! Sounds urgent to me, if you love and care about this cat, you should also arrange to have her spayed asap!

I wouldn't have let her have the second pregancy if the first one was so bad, there shouldn't be anymore ever, I wouldn't have allowed the first, but that's besides the point.

I second the gang's comment - there are so many cats already, too many, thousands that need homes!!! Have your kitty spayed.

Your best bet is to take her to the vet. There are no vets on this board, although there have been in the past.
My question would be: given that she already had one difficult pregnancy, why would you let her breed again? WHY?
When this is over, please be kind and have her spayed.

If you want my opinion.........instead of posting in painstaking detail on a website about your obvious concern for your cat, why don't you do the obvious and have a vet look at her. I have a very difficult time being compassionate to an owner who is irresponsible enough to have bred a cat not once....but twice, even though the first pregnancy was difficult.

I truly am hoping your much loved pet is okay, but things like this are very well avoidable. Please take her to get examined at once, and have her spayed asap for her health and well-being....and so the shelter cats have less competition for forever homes.

I agree with everyone else here. TAKE YOUR CAT TO A VET! The sooner the better. And while she is there make an appointment to have her fixed. The poor thing does not need to be put through this abomination any more. 1 and 1/2 years old and she has already been pregnant TWICE! Poor baby. :sad:
I pray whatever is wrong with her is something that a vet can fix. With one bad pregnancy behind her why would you even consider breeding her again?

If you want more cats go adopt one or more from a nearby shelter. That way you can help save one of the 2 to 3 million cats and dogs being euthanized in the States yearly.
