My dog is 10 years old, a collie mix. Suddenly his lips are changing colour and they look pink and swollen. As well, the left side of his nose is dry/white. He is constantly licking.

I took him to the vet and they prescribed some antibiotics, without really giving me a diagnosis or explanation. However, now that the antibiotics are finished the issue seems to be back.

Before I head back to the vet I just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced anything similar with their dog.

Thanks,!

One of our dogs developed an infection of the hair follicles that looked very similar, but the lesions were more widespread and would break open to drain pus and blood. It took many weeks of antibiotics to finally clear it up.

When your dog was on antibiotics did the nose clear up, too? Is his dog dish plastic, by any chance?

No, his dishes are both glass/ceramic.

The nose cleared up a bit while on the antibiotics but his lips got worse afterwards.
