ISO--Help/advice for abandonned cats in Lachine, Quebec
I received an email (french) from a lovely woman and her mother who are feeding the dumped cats on their street. Some Kittens have been wormed and vaccinated and adopted out, but the adults continue to breed and increase in number. These women don't have the means to do much more than what they are already doing.
I know that the shelters are all full....but I would like to give them more options. Is there a spay/neuter program for that area? Thanks for any recommendations.

Cpietra16 may be able to offer some advice for that area. I think she was helping with some warehouse kitties from Lachine? I dont think there were too many ooptions though sadly. Is there any way they can trap the ones that are breeding and spay or neuter them at the very least so as to try to stop the cycle? I dont know the area well but maybe you could google trap and release programs to see if there are any in your area that help the feral cats? just a thought! Kudos to those that are helping now! There is a low cost spay and neuter program at the MSCPA. I suggest calling them to find out more details.

Yes, the cats are in Lachine, Quebec.
I have e-mailed the woman to ask her if she would be interested in low cost spay/neuter, but I think she is low on funds and just wants some place to bring a few adults before they breed again. Hopefully she will answer me on Sunday, stay tuned, and thank you.

Bina I'm not sure when Cpietra16 will log back in but I know SteriAnimal is helping her (at a reduced rate) with the ferals/abandonned cats she's trapped from a Lachine Warehouse.
This group is also dedicated to sterilize feral and abandoned cats (trap-neuter & release) Linda 514.938.6150 sterianimal@sympatico.ca

Otherwise, I'm quite sure that the spca, Casca, Gerdys, ARN, etc. must all be overloaded with cats.
It's so sad.

Other rescues are Steri-Animal and their local rescue Verdun Refuge for Cats. Vanier College has these services, it has a veterinary department in this college. Call Linda Campbell 514-744-7500 ex. 7589 There are many vets that are involved with rescue. Unfortunately the public that wants to help strays, never test these strays for FIV (a deadly and contagious cat disease) and they should, especially those that are being put back outside, they will contaminate all the others. (These cats, unfortunately should be euthanized!) Even owned cats that roam are in danger, it is a death sentence for them! Because of this, people should keep their cats indoors, if there are colonies living outside. If a cat is not feral and can be adopted out to the public is is o.k. I know they mean well, but they are doing more harm than good and spending money for a hopeless cause.

Also another suggestion: If this woman is willing to foster, maybe a rescue will courtesy post and forward potential adopters to her. |
