Mysterious Cut Foot...

SO! Yesterday was my Birthday...and I spent the WHOLE evening crawling around with a bottle of peroxide scrubbing blood out of my nice beige carpet....
Somehow in the time it took me to take a shower, Patrón managed to cut the side of his pad on his back left foot, and bleed allllll over my bedroom floor.
NOT to mention that I am mildy hemophobic... so... WHAT an event last night turned out to be... me hyper-ventilating while trying to clean up carpets and stop Patrón's foot from bleeding. DB was not happy either, HE had to hold down bleeding squirming puppy while I peroxided and neosporined his foot!
Oh how I love having so many furbabies....

Should I not walk him a lot for a few days to keep it from continuously opening back up? Its a very small cute, I have NO idea how he got it, but if you mess with it to muhc it starts to bleed again. It looks like a paper cut almost, maybe one of Jackson's teeth cut him while they were wrestling? It's in a really weird place though....

Cuts on the foot can be a giant pain to heal. Since I don't have a yard, I've always had to walk the dogs regardless of cuts on their feet.

The best system I've come up with is to get a 4 pack of cheap baby socks and a set of dog boots. Every time we go out, a baby sock goes on (for padding and to soak up any little drops of blood), then a dog boot. **in the event that it's wet out, I'll also cut off the corner of a plastic bag and put that over the foot between the sock and the bootie to keep it all dry**

Usually there's a bit of blood on the sock for a few days and then, just when I'm getting ready to curse the g*ds of wound healing, it closes up and stops leaving any blood drops behind. Then I keep torturing the dog with the boot/sock combo for a few more days, just to keep the area clean.

ETA: you may also want to, if you haven't already, take a really good look at the cut to make sure nothing is lodged inside. Basil spent 2 days walking on a bunch of broken glass bits which had ended up in his foot a while ago. He never gave any indication at all and I only discovered it by accident.

I flushed it out with Peroxide pretty good, last night so I dont think theres anything in it, but I'll make sure to look again.

Poor puppy.... He was so frustrated with being held down last night while we cleaned him up...

Well I sure hope Patron's foot heals up quickly for you. Love those mystery cuts... For us it normally means Shadow has been left alone in the house and torn her foot on a nail while tearing off the walls. I used to buy a stretchy wrap bandage (they're white and you buy them in the bandaid aisle) that sorta sticks to itself. My vet uses them too. they're all crinkly on a roll and when you pull it out to wrap it stretches straight and then crinkles back up and sticks together. I'd put polysporin and a gauze pad and then the wrap. It helped to keep the blood from spreading everywhere... and yes the kid sock and bags and boots, etc. Lots of fun for sure. Good luck to you. I have LOTS of vet wrap too, we use it on the horses a lot. But mines pink and purple... haha...poor Patrón...

Awww the poor boy.. You feel so bad when a animal gets hurts because they don't understand that you are trying to help them. Poor guy..hope he is feeling better

Patrón seems to be all better, hasnt been bleeding at all since that night. I havent even had to wrap it up at all.

Dogs and their freak accidents...

Lucky he didnt have to endure Pink and Purple Vet wrap!

Isn't it? Maybe Self-Adhesive Bandage instead?

I actually learned about vet wrap in human first aid training, long before I'd ever even taken an animal to a vet

I've always called it vet wrap... But I think thats becasue I grew up with horses and thats what we used it for.
WHATEVER its called... Its still vet wrap to me!
