advice on Daschunds please
I have a male and female daschund. at the moment the female is on heat and the male is constantly frantic and "obsessed" with her- always wanting to hump and if she sits down he starts barking and whining at her. This is the second time she has been on heat, they have already had one litter of puppies. The first time he never behaved like this. They are both about 2 years old. Why is this so? the barking is driving us crazy.

well there IS a simple solution.......you could just have her spayed ...... simple option, saves you many future headaches of barking and litters

I would have them both fixed - now. That may not stop your male Dachshund from humping - mine were always neutered as soon as physically possible - but the ladies did like them and they loved the ladies. And don't think a 10 lb. Dachshund can't hump a big dog because my guys could do anything.

I can't figure out what exactly you think the problem is? Are you wanting to breed them again???? Perhaps, if that is the case, you could read the link below:
http://www.pets.ca/forum/showthread....light=breeding You have two hormonal dogs...of course they are going to bark

I personally would recommend having them spayed/neutered. Unless these are show dogs, breeding dogs; I see no reason not having them fixed. I think and correct me if I wrong that show dogs are not supposed to be fixed. If you plan on breeding them, this is a huge responsiblity to ensure all sorts of factors considered. Breeding for breed qualities, heath/desease, socialability, veteranary services, CKC/AKC registration and ensuring the puppies go to responsible pet owners etc.. Its not all about making a quick buck; it a true passion for the breed. Personally I beleive all household pets should be spayed/neutered; there are just to many unwanted, abused pets already.

I would get them fixed, I heard the male will start marking in the house if you don't.

Sorry but this is a pro spay and neuter forum. I consider you an irresponsible pet owner. You should go to your local SPCA and see how many animals die needlessly because of people like you. Sorry but I am a cat rescuer and see the misery all the time. So please stop feeling sorry for yourself and help your dogs.
