Gee, thanks Sherriffmom....I think?
Sherriffmom is correct. It is a long sorted tale, but we can make it short and sweet. They are a cruel company that tests on animals....DONT BUY THE FOOD.
Here is another thread as well
http://www.pets.ca/forum/showthread....highlight=iams
There are a few in this forum that discuss Iams cruel testing procedures, not to mention the conditions these animals are kept in. The crates are small often with the grates spread apart so much so that the animals toes/feet get caught and stuck in them. The endotrachael tubes put down their throats forcing them to ingest substances, oils, etc. They have cut chunks of flesh off of these animals in order to do tests. It's sad, repulsive, and frustrating. If you love your pet or ANY dog or cat for that matter, please, please, please DO NOT SUPPORT IAMS, EUKANUBA, P&G.
In fact I have a list that I will post later of companies that do test and those that do not.

Shae sorry if the appropriate tone didn't come across in the email.... it was truely meant as a complement. I think it is great what you are doing, I just knew there was no way I could get all the facts straight, so I figured I'd give them the link to your Iams thread. That way they'd get all teh facts
And Shae, it really was meant in a nice way, I think you are terrific

similar brand??

too bad, because I like the food itself...oh well. I'll be switching!! Anybody know of a similar tasting (yeah I would eat it brand for my Jake who has stomach issues??He's on Viokase, so the food can't be too high in protein, and can't be too bland either because thenhe won't eat it....I guess it's just try and let them decide....here we go

hiya twinmommy,
if you're looking for a good quality kibble for your pooches, try a store called "Woofers" on Des Sources on the west island. that's the closest pet supply store that i know of to pincourt that sells high quality dog food. i've only been there a couple of times cuz i don't live in that neck of the woods, but the owner was super helpful and knows her stuff. if you're downtown, try "Little Bear" on the corner of Green Ave. and Ste. Catherine, they have a super knowledgable staff.
good luck!
Crystal

Little Bear is fantastic, but if you live closer to (or in) NDG, you can go to Club K9 at 6004 Sherbrooke West. It's also great!

Sherriffmom.......oh, no offense taken at all. I was hoping it meant in a good way. You'd be surprised at the number of people who just turn the other cheek and don't want to know or hear the truth. Thank you for the compliment and for spreading the word.

Resources Support Companies That Do Not Test on Animals

PETA has contacted hundreds of companion-animal food companies, asking if they conduct laboratory tests on animals. Numerous companies responded to let us know that they do not. We have compiled a list of those companies below.

View the first letter, follow-up letter, and survey sent to companion-animal food companies.

Companies that are not on this list either responded to let us know that they do conduct laboratory experiments on animals or failed to respond to our numerous inquiries and are assumed to conduct laboratory experiments on animals.

If you are concerned about animals in laboratory tests, you should purchase companion-animal food exclusively from the following companies:

IAMS cruelty DOES exisit and it has been proven.IAMS and it's owner Procter & Gamble continue to do business with tons of laboratories that are just as bad as the one Peta investigated. Iams also conducts studies on animals (dogs, cats,,,) in it's own faculty and refuses to allow Peta to view.
The abuse is astounding. visit www.iamscruelty.com

HELP!!! Tell Iams you're refusing to buy their products until they STOP ALL animal experiments.

Nutro.......I'll look into it. I have literally hundreds of companies listed in my folder with a variation of details....testing, P&G, abuse, etc, etc.
If memory serves me correct, Nutro, I believe is ok. BUT, don't quote me on that. Will need to investigate that one a bit.
My main cause at the moment when it comes to pet food suppliers is Iams (Eukanuba- P&G) Keep in mind, they are not the only undesireable company that tests. But they are definately the leading company that does so.
Anyone here ever try Evolution ? Now, Natures Balance is a good one. Chris from the animal rights cafe feeds his beloved pooches an avacado based vegie diet .....apparently they literally thrive on it!

Lol

As I have almost 2 & 3 year olds, I can totally relate. My excursions are quick and to the point. As I am in Baie d'Urfe now, it's the closest for me as well. We should commiserate over coffee one day!

IAMS doesn't just suck because it does horrid tests on animals...it sucks because it comes pretty close to being just about the worst dog food you can buy..the quality is somewhat comparable to pooh in a toilet if you want to feed your dog poop..then why not just take a crap and throw it in a bowl? Its the same thing..

Sorry for the graphicness there..lol I just couldn't resist...i hate IAMS with a passion...capital P!

Nutro

We were told by a couple natural pet supply stores in town, as well as a Nutro rep. at one of them, that the company DOES NOT test on animals.

Gabby gets Nutro Ultra and loves it.

jj....you are referring to Nutros or Iams?
Iams definately tests, no if's, and's, or but's about it. If you're referring to Nutro, thats great to hear. I believe its a privately owned company so sometimes can be hard to get the accurate information.

I am definently referring to Nutro. The natural dog food store where we adopted Gabby from told us that Nutro did not test on animals, as did a rep. at Petco. I haven't been able to verify it though...I wish I could. Just reporting what i was told by people heavily involved with animals.
