oh my goodness! i'd go NUTS with a thing like that stuck to my ear poor sweetie... she's soooo good. how many dogs would shake and scratch and paw at it anyways? must be annoying as all heck! are you keeping her away from the other dogs, so they don't accidentally rip it off?

soon weekend... two whole days with your furries.

Thanks HP.
lol, she doesn't have to be kept away- she does it on her own. We should keep her away from us though... She brushed her ear up on me earlier and then screamed and looked at me like I did it.

Poor doggy though-- first her teeth in Jan and now this... I hope she stays ok for a while. Poor beasty.

One sad looking doggy..

awww, poor little sweetheart , she "does" look miserable.

But she'll feel so much better.

She may not know "why" she has to wear this thingy on her ear.. but she has complete faith and trust in you and her daddy... that is certain! She is SUCH a good girl to learn "no shake" already!
for Jemma, best wishes for a speedy healing.

Poor Jemma, at least you're on the road to recovery now. Please get well soon (no just like mama said) and try to stay out of the vets office!

Poor Jemma. The poor girl has been through so much at the vet lately. I hate that we can't explain what is going on.
She is so good to learn no shake, wow, Hunter and Cassie would have that thing ripped off so fast, it would be quite an ordeal.

Hope she feels better soon and for no more owies ever. She has had enough

Not fair for a doggy to have the tooth problem just a couple of months or so ago and now this. Hope she heals up real fast, and stays healthy.

Sweet Jemma. She looks so distraught. Speedy recovery to you Jemma. Gentle licks from the grrrls - healing licks. What a clever girl too learning not to shake. Mommy and Daddy will spoil you real good now...

Oh my gosh, Prin, I missed this one before! I've never heard of any of this before, guess I've been lucky not to experience with any of my doggies so far! I can't even imagine! Oh my, poor Jemma! The pics are actually really good to see, because I would have never have known otherwise! Thanks for posting them. Poor Jemma, she looks so miserable. But what an angel to learn her new command so quickly.

Thanks everybody. She's super sappy today, but that might be because she's a little late on her estrogen because of the surgery and things...

Definitely lots of cookies. She'll probably get some canned food too.

Smiley, that's really why I posted them. This kind of thing happens a lot with labs and other dogs who are prone to ear infections, so it's good to get the info out, I guess.

Poor Jemma. I can't imagine how she can keep that splint on her ear for two weeks. She won't be able to play with Boo and the tewfs either. I hope it heals well for her.

I can't download the pics surprise, surprise but it sounds awful! They splinted it with pieces of foam?! How does it stay on?

s for Jemma and s and s crossed for a faster than normal recovery! And Mama Prin should get some chocolate, but she's on her own cuz the virtual chocolate hazel could send her doesn't have nearly the flavor as the real stuff does!

Boo, Leila, and Pablo--you be good s and play soft with Jemma so as not to disturb her ear while it's healing!

Hazel... ok... Are you ready? :footinmouth:

So they cut inside the ear flap, drained it all out, right? So on the outside of the ear flap, there's a 1/2 inch thick piece of square foam, with wire mesh glued to the outside of it to keep it firm...

And then...

The foam is sewed to the ear... There are three holes in Jemma's ear that hold the foam on.

I cleaned it today... I'm not supposed to, but I had to.. I cleaned the inside of her ear and all the dried blood off her face... Poor doggy. She's such a sap. She can't jump because the ear thingy pulls and I guess it hurts, and it upsets her right away... 12 more days...
