Buster and Hemorrhagic GastroEnteritis (HGE)

I know it's been awhile since I have been on this site, but I am looking for some positive reinforcement....

Buster went into Doggie ER yesterday morning with vomitting and bloody poops, lethargic, not eating, dehydrated....and now the Vets are thinking he has HGE. He hasn't eaten in over 48 hours now, he was happy to see me for about 2 minutes today then didn't want anything to do with me. They say he will have to stay in hospital until he eats and poops.

Anyone have any knowledge of HGE? Hope there are lots of success stories...Buster (and I!) need your prayers

HRH Missie the Poo had the same thing. Bloody stinky poops, not eating and vomiting. We treated her with Baytril and an anti nausea anti pain med. I changed her diet to a Hills ZD. I know, not the best food but have not had another episode in 4 years. Good luck with Buster, give the little fart a hug from me.

I had a 14 week old pup once diagnosed with this. She had the dark stools, was vomiting what looked like pure blood, was very flat etc.. So, we had her in to the surgery on 3 days running, then she spent 3 days at the Surgery , and what a lovely sight it was to see her finally galloping down the passage to get to me. The vet tried to buy her off me. She had no hope! The little mischief, an Australian Cattle Dog, went on to be my first Champion show dog. I wish you the best of luck with Buster, I've never forgotten how much I worried about my girl.
