Corvus Lost His Mate
My female cockatiel died today.
Found her on the floor of the cage with the male huddled against her. He has spent the day looking sad and dejected, making little chirpy sounds. I think he might die soon of a broken heart, he has not spent a day of his life alone. I am looking for a home for him with other birds. If anyone knows of anywhere, please let me know. Thanks

Could you not find him another female?
Very sad for him and you I'm sure, they are such beautiful birds... A friend of mine got a Cockatiel for $150 to cheer up his miserable parrot and it worked wonders, they are the cutest to watch.

Thing is, I don't have the money to spend on getting another bird, and I was going to see about finding them a home in the near future anyway. See, the problem is I am allergic to birds... ironic, yes, but feathers are an allergy of mine. So, I would rather not do a continuing cycle of getting birds to always have pairs, I would just rather get him a lovely home in a nice aviary where he can fly and be happy.

Deb at Watchdog often has birds.two of our cockatiels and our quaker are from her.definately try to find your bird a buddy if no cockatiels are available they will often bond with budgies.Have 2 cages at first put beside each other so they can get to know eachother let them out together so they can get to know eachother on neutral ground.birds are really social and it will stress a bird who is used to having a buddy to be alone

There is a place in Niagara region, fonthill, called Rice Road Greenhouses. They have many birds in various huge aviaries. They have one that is dedicated to cockatiels.. perhaps they would give Corvus a home? The birds are there but not for sale so I'm not sure how they have acquired them. Just a thought.

How old was the one you lost. Birds are very good at hiding illness and unless you know the cause of death I would not place another bird with this one and especially not give it to someone else with birds just in case it is something that can be passed on to others. I have parrots and personally would not take the chance on bringing in a bird that was possibly ill.

Well, I had her for 8 1/2 years, him for 8 now. I do not know how old either of them were when I got them.
