A rare treat -we held a baby Cardinal

Last night my roomie found a small bird in our recycling bin. We guessed she had flown into the house or something and was injured.

Roomie put on her gloves and was able to easily scoop her up and took her to the front porch. I started searching google to determine what kind of bird she was and quickly found images of young, female Cardinals that looked just like her.

Later I went out and picked her up, also. She seemed so calm around us.

We left her on the porch in a little box, with some seed and some leaves, but this morning she was gone. Still, it was a rare treat to hold something so beautiful.

Here's the picture of roomie holding her.

What a cutie and what a treat to actually have it in your hand.

We have a male Cardinal that comes to our livingroom window every day. He pecks at the window. It scares our old golden. But the others just look at it. He is really beautiful. I think they are one of the prettiest birds in nature.

Even rarer!!! That's a beautiful adult fem (young of the year have brown beaks and look decidedly spikey )! Bless you for taking care of her when she needed it--sounds like she might have hit the window and knocked herself temporarily silly.

I'll bet she's back with her brood now!

She's lovely! I've always loved Cardinals. They are in my top 5 favorite wild birds.

Yes, that is an adult female Cardinal.
It happens occasionally that they fly into a window and get temporarily stunned or disoriented.
You did the correct thing by picking her up and placing her in a box in a quiet protected area.
Good for you !
