Peeing for Guests
No it's not a party trick, but it's definitely a problem. Right now we have a friend staying with us and yesterday Ivy peed in the house three times. She's 6 months old and hasn't peed in the house for a couple of months except when we have guests over, especially when they're staying the night.
Any ideas? Ben

Is she just randomly peeing in the house whenever? Or is it when she's interacting with the guests? Have you changed her normal routine (feeding/walking/playing/toiletting) since your guests' arrival? Dogs are creatures of habit and can revert to BAD habits when their environment changes significantly. Do you have a crate?

It's strange she had just been taken out for a walk and a pee an hour before the first pee in the house. She used to holding it for much longer. And it wasn't while she was interacting with our friends. Twice she did it by the bathroom door and once in the living room, but never while we were engaging her. and there was nothing exciting going on.
Anyway I'm stumped, but she's been fine today... ben

She's probably just expressing her discomfort with the change to her environment (new people, change in schedule). If it's resolving itself, great, just use a good enzymatic cleaner on the spots where she had accidents and do your best to stick to her usual schedule as much as possible to minimize disturbances.

Sometimes the littlest diversion in routine will cause this to happen. She is feeling a little insecure.
Go back to basics. Start again and she will start to get back to where you want her. I have a dog that does this all the time and she is two years of age. I start all over again, and in about 2 days everything is fine.

thanks for the replies everyone. She's been fine since that day. Probably just a little insecure. We'll just try and be more proactive when we have guests around.

No ideas or help for you but perhaps a laugh? When a friend of my DH was a boy he did some sleep walking and, as the story goes, walked downstairs one night when his parents had guests, peed in a corner of the living room right in front of all of them and went back upstairs. Now THAT'S peeing for guests on a grand scale
