help me decide on my food selections

as some of you know my now 5 month old APBT has allergies. so i have decided to go with a holistic food. not only for allergy reduction but fo overall heath improvement.

well, i bought a small bad of innova puppy two days ago and mixed it in with his other food. last night i gave him 100 percent innova and now he has diarehea.

i spoke with a vet in my area wich is somewhat suipportie of the holistic diet (most around here want you to buy "perscription" food.

he told me that his do was on innova and also a the same problem.

so, now that the 6lb bag is gone im going to the pet supply store to pick up different food. ive done some rading and the following seem to do wll with allergic dogs.the vet also told me that becuase he is packing on alot of weight that i might connsider putting him on adult formula foods if i am going holistic

well here is what i am considering feeding him...
solid gold wolf king bison
solid gold beef and barley

wich would some of you reccomend? both of the above foods are readily available from the pet supply store and they keep the stock fresh.

I think he had diahrrea because you switched him over too quickly. You need to mix his old food in with the new food for at least a week before you make the 100% switch.

As far as allergies go, do you know what he is allergic to? I recommend the Wellness Fish & Sweet Potato because it doesn't have many ingredients, and most dogs have not ate whitefish or sweet potatoes so he probably isn't allergic.

Allergies are tough I know, good luck.

i was going to do that but he was running out of his old food and i wasnt going to buy another bag of thr old stuff.

right now whta i want to do is get a good holistic food that is readily avail at my pet store. they can order me anything but they have solid gold in stockand i dont want to go back to his old food and wait for a special order to come in.

i was told that he just has a chemical allergy ..so we changed to oatmeal shampoo, we dont use fabric softener when we wash his bedding anymore and now changing his food as well.

Ok, what is he eating now? How are his stools? Regardless of having no food left, it's no fun for a dog to get all gurgly like that.

he was on purina beniful puppy food, but becuase of allergies i tried a small bag of innova large breed puppy food...his stools arent wattery its just like a blob...sorry no other way to explain it. he isnt going any more frequently.. i will say though his enrgy level is alot higher the past few days.

i plan on sticking to holistic and all natural foods from now on.

Personally, I'd have bloodwork done to see what allergies he has exactly. That way you know what foods he can and cannot have. Or if he even has an allergy at all.

Food allergy tests aren't too accurate still (I was told by my vet).

You can still do the holistic, but it won't help if you get a food with the same ingredients as what you have. If beneful has chicken in it, for example, the evo does too- so that might not help.

When going from commercial food to holistic, you have to go extra slowly. A week or more of very gradual switching over helps.

i have a dog with allergies, was allergic to the innova (my other babes all love it and thrive on it) he is now on wellness white fish and sweet potato and hes getting better, he also gets some evo RM, and he loves it. since the holistic food has no stool hardeners, it takes their system a little longer to adjust than if you are switching between the other brands. I found adding a bit of tripe to the meal (about a teaspoon or two) helps with the stools

Ok, that's fine. Just remember to switch very gradually. Maybe digestive enzymes might help with the switch too.

I would have left him on the Innova but what ever you switch him to you have to do it slowly over a period of at least a week. Beneful is a very crappy food and it would take his system awhile to adjust to the Innova.
