Book Values

Just out of curiousity, does anyone know where I can find out the value of a book? I bought Jim an antique magic book (first edition published in 1909) about 4 years ago that I paid about $400 for and am just curious to see how much value it's gained and don't know where to look. I'm starting to gather value of things in the house so we can get insurance. I want to do this before hurricane season starts -- just in case. I figure better safe than sorry. We do now live in Florida and I know what kind of luck I have. Thanks.

An Antiquarian Book Seller can give you an appraisal much like a jeweller's appraisal for your fine gems. It's a better bet to have a written appraisal to preclude disputes with your insurance company should you (n )ever have reason to require replacement.

You can also contact Sotheby's or Christie's Auction houses and they can do appraisals for insurance and will tell you as much as possible about your book.
