neighbors dog.

my neighbor has this fairly large shar pei. and He is not so much big as he is heavy.

the neighbor insists that she would like sammy and this other dog to play, but im leary ive seen this other dog with his sister and hes rough. not to mention the sight of him terrifies sammy.

however everytime i ahve sammy outside this woman insists on bringing her dog over to where he can reach sam,

sam basically whimpers and hides behind me. Is there anything I can do? ive asked the woman not to bring her dog over to him, she jsut brushes me off claiming sam is jsut a scared pup. wich isnt true cause sammy plays with my brothers austrailian shepard with no hints of fear or intimidation at all.

what would you do? could the superintendant of my building do anything ?

ive tried a few different paths for sams walks but she always seems to find where we are walking in the neighborhood

its become SO annoying, and frustrating since i ahve no idea what to so.

ive pretty much been pickign sam up and bringing him inside when it happens.

Poor you. I hate situations like that.

I think that if you've tried being diplomatic, and she's not "getting it" then your should just simply tell her that you find this to be a bother, and that your dog is not having as much fun as hers.

Let her know that she shouldn't take offense...and hopefully she won't.

I think you have to be upfront about it. Say "My dog is not social. Please don't bring the dog over here because it scares him and he gets diarrhea from it."
He may or may not get diarrhea but dogs at our park that are terrified get it, so feel free to use it... People usually stand down if you act like you're the underdog... And if you start to get graphic about what color, consistency the diarrhea is, that might hit it home...

Prin,

im gonna give that a try,

I hate it that people can be inconsiderate enough to ignore when a avoidable situation obviously upsets the dog but they insist.

Sammy is gettign socialised, but really the dogs probably 10 times the size of sammy, if some giant man walked up to me towering over me like that, well intentioned or no, id probably worry at first too.

im sure im protective of sam, but its out of love, hes a sweet pup and I dont want him to be stressed for no reason.

The thing is even if sammy is getting socialized, she doesn't have to know that. If he is a house pet who doesn't see dogs too often unless it is by passing by, socialization is not as important and she doesn't need to know anything otherwise.

People tell me all the time to leave my Boo play- he has weird body language and no one can tell when he turns from playing to aggression but us. I tell them "Look, he is not playing. Don't tell me what my own dog is feeling." You just have to stand up. You are the only one who knows what is best for your dog.
