Question Transitioning from Baby -> Kitten food

Nola is now a 4 month old Calico who has been transitioned to Kitten food from Babycat food. I had her on the Royal Canin BabyCat 34 dry formula and slowly transitioned her to the Royal Canin Kitten 34 dry formula. I am at the end of the transition process and she is solely on the kitten food.

She is a small cat, about 3.4 pounds now, and is very healthy as confirmed by the vet. I have noticed, however, that she is eating less kitten food than she did when she on the 'baby' counterpart. She doesn't seem to be entirely crazy about the food, eating only a few kibbles at a time.

In conjunction with this development is her growing preference for pork, ground beef and veal whenever it is found on the kitchen table.

Alas, I have a few questions:
  1. Do I create a dry/wet formula in her dish to stimulate eating?
  2. Or is it suitable to put small pieces of our 'people' meat into her dry food dish?
  3. Or, should I allow her more time to get used to the Kitten food?

Thank you very much for your co-operation. This board has been of great assistance.

Royal Canin is not a very good food and I would switch her to one of the better ones like Innova or Natural Balance.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have not heard anything negative about Royal Canin until now, but I will definitely consider the brands you mentioned.

Becuase of her age, try not to fuss too much with her diet. It's more important for the littles to stick with a diet that works for them, rather than risking stomach upset by trying to switch them to something "better" that works for us.

There are better kitten foods on the market, but I'd stick with the RC for now (short term) if you just switched her and she's doing alright on it. To answer your questions...

1. You can, or you can add a tbsp of wet (watch for the recalled foods) to her dry. You can also add hot water to the kibble and let it sit to soften it up.
2. Not yet.
3. I would give her more time, unless you JUST switched, in which case I'd switch her back to the babycat (back to what she did well on) and wean her onto a better brand of kitten food.

I think it's better to start her off on something good then you won't have to worry about switching later when she could be more finicky.
