Looks like some sort of ash, chico. Do a search on "ash tree seeds images"...

If it is an ash tree, it's not long for this world I'm afraid. They're predicting that the emerald ash borer will kill 95% of ash trees in the GTA very soon.

Hmm seems like ash is quite a valuable wood..used for making lots of stuff. I know my sister had a few big old trees that were hardwood on their property that needed to be removed so they sold them to someone who uses the wood to make furniture, real hardwood floors etc. They got a fair chunk of $$ for them...hehe a little different than paying someone to cut them down, he paid them instead.

That's very alarming, clm. Sorry my brain isn't working, what does GTA stand for? Sounds as bad as the Elm leaf beetle here, if that isn't managed properly and the tree is defoliated often enough it'll die.

GTA=Greater Toronto Area
We've already lost most of our American Elm trees to Dutch Elm Disease, GF. The Emerald Ash Borer is another accidental introduction that is taking out the ash trees. If we're very very lucky, the ash will turn out to be more resistant than the elms were What's really sad is that some cities replaced all their dead elms decades ago with ash....

What you have is definitely an ash. We have ash as boulevard trees on our street. There are approximately 200,000 ash trees in Winnipeg. As far as I know the ash borer has not yet arrived in Manitoba but it is just a matter of time. Apparently it was first came to North America in a pile of packing wood from China in 2002.
Chico, I found some info on Oakville. Apparently it is already in your community and steps are being taken. If you google Oakville and ash borer, you will find lots of links. Here are a few: http://www.oakville.ca/nr-08july25.htm http://www.oakville.ca/nr-10july15.htm http://www.oakville.ca/nr-11jun21.htm http://www.insidehalton.com/communit...rald-ash-borer http://www.oakville.ca/eab.htm If you try to take some steps to save your ash, better not tell hubs.
