President's Choice Wet Cat Food?

Hey i was wondering if its safe to feed my cat, pouches of wet cat food from president's choice. Its called PC Finicky Cat Gourmet, and when i was reading the ingredients i realized that there was wheat gluten in it. And when i searched the food on the internet i saw that there might have been a recall for the food back in 2007. The description on the recall wasnt very specific as it only said "Turkey and Giblets", "Chicken" but it had different upc numbers. So if anyone had any experiences with the President's Choice Finicky Cat Gourmet wet cat food, please share. THANKS

When choosing a food for your pet you want specific descriptions as to what the ingredients are from. You also want at least 3 of the first 5 ingredients to be animal protein of a specified type ie chicken, chicken meal, chicken liver

The ingredient list for PC Finicky Gourmet Cat Food - Cuts - Chicken Dinner in Gravy

Quote:
Chicken, meat by-products, wheat gluten, natural flavours, guar gum, salt, sodium carbonate, potassium chloride, dl-mthionine, iron oxide, sodium phosphate, choline chloride,
vitamins (vitamin E, A, D3, B12 supplements, thiamine mononitrate, niacin, d-calcium patothenate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, riboflavin supplement, folic acid, biotin), minerals (ferrous sulphate, zinc oxide, copper proteinate, manganous sulphate, potassium iodide, sodium selenite), taurine, caramel, titanium dioxide, water sufficient for processing.
"meat by products" is non specific - doesn't tell what kind of meat
"wheat gluten" should be avoided not only for the potential and past occurances of toxic ingredients but also high potential for allergic reactions and cats don't need grains in their diets

The ingredient list for PC Finicky Gourmet Cat Food - Pâté - Turkey and Giblets Dinner is:
Quote:
Turkey, animal liver, meat by-products, poultry giblets, animal digest, natural and artificial flavours, tricalcium phosphate, guar gum, salt, potassium chloride, dl-methionine, vitamins and minerals, choline chloride, taurine, water sufficient for processing.
"Animal liver" is non specific and could be from any kind of animal
"meat by products" again is non specific - doesn't tell what kind of meat is used
"poultry giblets" non specific there are several different kinds of birds that are considered poultry - doesn't say which one is used
"animal digest" again non specific as to what animal it came from and what it consists of

There are far healthier, higher quality foods for your cat, have a look at Nature's Variety, Wellness, Eagle Pack, Evo. Also because PC is a store brand food it is manufactured by a third party so there is no true guarentee of consistancy in formula, quality or where it is manufactured.

Snowball and Puddles were on PC canned food and PC Nutrition 1st kibble and I feel it did not do their health any good and if I continued Puddles on it I don't honestly believe she would still be alive today. When I first got Jasper he was on that food and he had horrible diarrha and very, very stinky poops.

I changed Puddles' food 2 years ago to Wellness canned, then onto Instinct and homemade raw and I can't believe the difference in her. Her fur is no longer greasy, it is thick and soft. She is more energetic and she developed muscle mass. Yes, at 12 years old she developed muscle mass. Jasper has great poops now .

I will never feed my cats that food again.
