Help, suddenly aggressive cat, need pro advice

We have a very friendly year and a half old cat, who is very calm, has all her shots, and lives only indoors. She has not been spayed, but will be this week. While we did not discourage her as much as we should have from play bitting and scratching in the past, she has never genuinely attacked us with the aim of causing harm, nor has she ever broken the skin. She sleeps every night tucked into our necks where she purrs loudly. Two days ago however, when ironically my girlfriend and I were preparing to go to the Toronto zoo, a loud commercial came on, and bizarrely, to entertain my girlfriend I started singing to the commercial, I was also shaking a green bottle over my head like it was a maraca, this action unfortunately sent my cat into a supernaturally fueled aggression. She bit and scratched me through my thick jeans to a point where I thought I would need stitches. She kept coming too, over and over again with a force and strength I did not think possible from such a small animal. The screams and hisses were also unnatural and very loud. Anyway, we left the cat almost immediately and went to the zoo. When we got home she was calm, and cuddled us like she also did, and we fed her, and dismissed the incident as a weird one off. But later that day I went to the fridge and poured myself some ginger ale from the same green bottle, the cat, upon seeing this, flew back into a possessed rage, this time more aggressive than the first. We don't know what to do now, are the any cat behaviorist's that can give some advice?

Well... you definitely startled her, I'm no expert but I imagine she now relates the green bottle to your bizarre behaviour.... (although I got quite a giggle over it! ) You could try putting an empty green bottle on the floor for her to investigate and she may calm down once she sees that they are no threat to her. Good luck!

Well you obviously startled her the first time but since she attacked again when you used normal actions to bring out the bottle, it sounds like she had a green bottle or a bottle of that shape thrown at her or was hit with it, scared in someway with it. I'm not suggesting by you but that's what it sounds like to me, what is her history?

krdahmer has a good suggestion, place an empty green bottle of the same shape on the floor and leave her to investigate. Do not pick her up & put her infront of it or prod her towards it in any way, just let her check it out on her own.

I agree with both badger and krdahmer, very important to allow her to investigate on her terms.

Please do not panic and think you have an evil cat, although I certainly know how incredibly frightening it can be.
I have had several experiences with a frenzied cat myself,hospital-visits and lenghty treatments.
There is always a reason for odd behaviour and I would eliminate the cause,no more green bottle,or if you want to take the chance, let her sniff it to be assured it's no threat.
If you expect her to react violently, please take cover,cat-bites can cause severe infections.
My doctor always asks"Is that cat still alive?"
Sure he is and I love him,but try to avoid what got him in a frenzie in the first place.

You don't need a cat wisperer.

It is springtime and love is in the air.

Chances are that she will be fine once you have her spayed.
