Something In The Air Freaked My Dog Out?
Hello All!
I am new to the forum, So bear with me.lol..I have a 4 year old Siberian Husky that is usually not afraid of anything, but the other day I looked out my window and she was acting strange, she was moving around not knowing where to go and had her head up in the air smelling like crazy, and was feaking out. I brought her in the house and she was crouching down and looking up over her head and pacing back and forth looking out the window, she was now freaking me out as well, it was like something was after her. It took a while to calm her down, so I let her out again a little later on and when she went out , before leaving the steps it was as if she was looking for whatever might have freaked her out to begin with.Would this have been a wild animal? and what wild animals would freak dogs out like this? |

A lot of dogs will react strangely to hot air balloons, even if we don't notice them...either the sight or the sound of them...maybe???

Thanks for your reply, but no chance of that in our aera, and today she has been doing the same thing. I'm lost as to what it might be. I still think it might be some kind of wild animal.

It could well be a wild animal - bear, cougar, wolf, coyote - if you have them in your area. It could also be a new noise or new smell (neither of which would necessarily be known to humans). It could also be a dead animal near enough for the dog to smell. There are so many possibilities - it could even be a new person reasonable close.
If you do find the cause, please let us know! In the meantime, I hope things improve for you and your dog!

Where do you live? As in city, country, town, not in location specifically. Could it be possible that a hawk, owl, some bigger bird swooped too low? Or even a flock of Canadian Geese. I know my kittens stop cavorting when they fly overhead here about 10 times a day. That could possibly be it.
And btw, welcome and we would really like to see pictures. Hint hint |

We have a lot of foxes out where we are and my dogs freak out when they see them. We're talking cowering and shaking and whining.I also find that they see things way before I do, they must smell it or something. Aren't Greyhounds supposed to be prey driven? Not my guys

You add pics by - going to bottom of post and looking for additional options. There you will see manage attachments. You can upload from your comp or use a url (photobucket or some other image hosting site). I use photobucket. It's pretty easy. You will probably have to resize your pics because most are too big. If yours are you can resize on photobucket as well. Just go to the pic(s) you want to put on and hit the edit button at the top of each one. It will give you a popup menu. I use website for my size and never have a problem. Hope this helps.

I agree...pics would be great! And Stump does that "sniff the air--act all funny" thing too. I've discovered it's when there are racoons in the area.

To me,it sounds like something or someone scared her. I'd watch her outside and see what happens or where she goes.

How is Kia today? Have you had her since she was a puppy?
To post pics have you tried to post them without using photobucket? Go to the photo forum here and click on "new thread", put whatever you want in the reply box, scroll down to "additional options" then click on "manage attachments" and follow the instructions to upload from your computer. I love Sibes ....hope to see pics soon. |

You can try using whatever program you have on your comp. You will probably be able to resize your pics from it. I never had any luck with mine.
When using photobucket......... at the top of every picture you download you will see "click to add title" and under that blue print that says "move/tag/edit/share/delete". Click on edit. When it opens click on "resize" which is the third one from the left. Hope this helps. |

Kia (scarred dog)
Thank YOU all for ur replys.. Kia seemed fine for the last couple of days' I am going to give you a little history of her. About a year ago Kia started to limp on one of her back legs, when I noticed that something was wrong I took he to the vet, I can go on and on as to what my vet said it was, but i'll try to make this as short as possible. After tooo many trips to the vet I saw a different doctor by chance that looked at her and againg to shorten this up, they put her on steroids and accupuncture which was horrible for her and me.We went out on a family visit and took the dog with us, so when she jumped in the back seat of the car she cried like a baby, couldn't get her to the vet til the next day, where they again examined her and told me that she blew the ligament in her left leg, accupunture again and pain medication. Another doctor examained her and said both ligaments were gone in her hind legs. She had clicking in both stifles. So to make a very long story short 2 days later we were off to Prince Edward Island to the teaching hospital where she had what they called Bilateral rupture of the cranial cruciate ligaments!. Double whamy! She had to have both the bones broken in both hind legs and a metal plate put in both legs.. I was horrified when we picked her up 5 days later.. But again I am going to cut this short and tell you it was a very very long 5 months for her and me.BUT she is doing wonderful now!! She is worth every penny of it. Anyway stll having problems trying to get pictures up but i'll do my best to figure it out.So bear with me..

My Goodness! Kia has been through a lot in her short life. The huskies I have known have seemed very sensitive to sound, more worried by it than other dogs. Glad to hear that she is doing good now, she is lucky to have you!

Kia
Thank you all for ur kind wishes for kia.She has been through a lot , and I hope and pray that is all she has to deal with. I am so wanting to show her off but darn I cannot figure this picure adding thing out and I am getting frustrated.lol..I am trying to retrive them from my collection Of Kodak Share, maybe that's the problem, I have to download them first? and how do I do that? Maybe that's why I can't do it from photobucket as they are in my Kodak collection? I'm going to try once more, and if I can't do it I will see if I can get someone else to do it for me. Thank you all for trying to help.

Oooh but we can not wait to see her! I couldn't figure Photobucket out either, I use paint.net to resize, any photo program that will resize the photo will work, as long as you get it down to the right size.

Call me crazy if you will, but could Kia have sensed a ghost? I read someplace a few years ago, how animals and kids could sense ghosts/ spirits/ whatever you want to call them ...
I know it's far fetched, but ... |

Evidence you say? Notice how some cats won't look you in the eye, but tend to look just above your head? Your aura (sp?) resides just above your head. Cats are smart enough to sense that. Personally, I find the Siamese cats are more aware of your aura than others (vast generalization, I know!!). Some dogs do too, but I find cats (and horses) are more likely to communicate with your aura. We live in a 80-year-old+ farmhouse, with a 100-year-old+ bankbarn (and assorted old sheds). Plenty of old grudges and bad feelings that we have had to deal with. My 'spooky' Golden found a nifty one in the tractor shed. She nearly fell backwards over herself, after seeing a chain go flying across the shed Our old Golden had a much calmer personality and tolerated the spirits much better. My grandmothers property was the site of a supposed Indian massacre. There were a few spots where we believe that there were some angered spirits hanging around, our Golden would stand gaurd whenever we went near there. When we got too close to certain areas (where we knew from previous situations, that there was angered spirits) he would react -- pacing, panting heavily and whining slightly to sway our attention and move us away from there. Spooky yes, but lets face it ... they ARE out there On the other hand, your dog may have caught whiff of a wild animal -- a bear that is hibernating close to your property? A few winters ago, the horses and dogs got really edgy -- in a strange way! About a week later, while walking in the back woods, we came across a hibernating bear ... close enough that we figure the dogs and horses caught scent of it and were trying to alert us ... needless to say, we didn't go near that area till the middle of the following summer LOL Also have had the dogs react similar to yours, whenever our local coyote/coy-dog/wild dog pack has been hunting close to us and brought something large down (deer, buck, moose, etc) Either way, give your pet credit. I think we underestimate our pets often. They are much more aware of their surroundings, then we are ... IMO anyways Good luck!
