arielWe have a 10 yr. old healthy cat. Ella is her name. She insists on peeing on the floor in our garage even when she has a clean accessible litter box. She especially seems to choose rope, jackets, or anything else that might be on the garage floor. She will also refuse to pee outside, then comes in and will pee on a floor mat in the house! We love her, but she is really treading on thin ice with my husband! Any advice, or why she might be doing this? Thanks, Jen

Firstlt, you should check to make sure that it is not a medical problem. When a cat urinates inappropriately, s.he is usually trying to tell you something. She is on the edge of geriatry (@ 10) so she may be developing diabetes and be drinking alot and thus need to go alot. Alernately, she may have arthritis and be in pain and it hurts to get to her box - does she have only one box? The rule of thumb, as you may know, is one more box than the number of cats you have.

If you have not already,m I'd take her to the vet.

And please tell your husband to be patient. Would he be patient for you? (His attitude is scary!)

Exactly. She may have a bladder infection and if you've ever had one you know how very painful this is.

Cats with urinary tract or bladder problems will urinate all over the place, looking for a spot that doesn't hurt.

Please have her checked out without delay.
