Best way to rehome a cat?
Hi,
We have been left with a cat from someone who stayed in our house. This person is not expected to return. Does anyone have suggestions on how to find a good home for a cat? The best option that I can see right now is the SPCA. Does anyone know if cats are still euthanized if they are not adopted out in a certain time span? Or could anyone recommend an alternate organization? |

How old is the cat , older cat can take longer to get adopted . If the shelter is a kill shelter the cat would be put down in a couple of days , shelters don't have a lot of money and put down older pets first.
Do you have any 'NO' kill cats shelters near you or you call vet office and see if know anyone looking for new cat . Poor kitty |

Thanks for your reply. I don't know the cats age but she is an adult. I would guess around age 3- 5 years. Your suggestion of calling a vet is a good one.
I have heard that the SPCA in BC rarely euthanizes animals but I was not sure how much truth there is to that. |

I'd say the best way is to ask friends, friends of friends and/or neighbours if they would like a cat.
(Of course I'd like to be assured that they are cat lovers though) Please do not put up a "free to a good home" ad anywhere...as this tends to attract some people that do not have the cat's best interest at heart. Hope that may help and good luck!

hi there Double Trouble.
We agree wholeheartedly with Marko. Best to ask friends or friends of friends - anyone who is genuinely interested in having a kitty. If that doesn't work, check with your local pet food stores - management or supervisor - cause they generally know good people who are looking for cats to adopt. Barkingdog's idea of the local vet office is also a good option. You should be able to get some good advice from any of the above and good luck with it. Oh yes, it probably would be a good idea to have a photo handy too.
