Have these dogs been drugged?

I came across this ad for Pit Bull puppies. Do they look like they have been drugged with steroids to you? Their bodies are so big, and their heads so small. They really look very sad. What do you guys think?

Talk about a bunch of sad looking dogs....

They don't seem normal-sized to me. I don't know anything about steroid use with pits (is this common with some breeders?!), but their heads look shrunken compared to the bulk of their bodies...

How terrible if they are indeed being altered like this...

No drugs, just terrible breeding.

"They are so bully and wide with crazy head pieces"

I mean, seriously? Does this sound like a reputable breeder? Of course not. These are the people responsible for destroying the breed, both in terms of physical conformation and behaviourally. They're producing oversized, structurally unsound monstrostities, only concerned about the size of their heads and the width of thier chests. It gets me right steamed, I'll tell you that. Cripes, even the breed standard as stated by the UKC, which these pups are supposedly registered with, is a far cry from what these poor dogs are.

They are able to create that just from line breeding?? Wow. That is impressive, but at the same time very disgusting. I was sure these dogs were given steroids. It's obvious the breeders aren't reputable. I'm surprised their ears aren't cut.

However, on a good note...Pit Bulls bred for disposition and breed standards are strikingly gorgeous dogs!

I read the ad and like you, thought byb. The people that would buy these pups are the same people who shouldn't own a dog .

This YouTube vid about the *******ization of the breed always makes me giggle... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9nnF1AeY6A (It's the music that does it)

very creepy indeed! it is breeders like these that give the breed such a poor name! and it is breeders like that that have made even me - a complete animal nut - a little apprehensive of the breed and i KNOW its not the breed, it is the few breeders and owners!

after clicking on the youtube link about the hippopotamus, i mistakenly clicked on a few others that were pit bull fights - now am

Since dog fighting is illegal, YouTube is not allowed to host any videos of fighting. What you may have seen are videos that are against dog fighting, and show some sad photos of involved dogs. Those are sad videos, and tough to watch, but they definitely are not videos of dog fights.

Unless by chance you did come across one that showed dogs fighting in which case you should report it to YouTube.

Really? Wow, I have been through a lot of pro-APBT and anti-fighting vids, and have never come across a video of an actual fight. Ack!! Thank you for reporting them.

Those look more like staffies to me. If they are then they are to look as indicated.

I have moved out several staffies and pitties from Ontario, and there is a difference in size. Staffies have square large heads, short muscular bodies. Pitties are mixes of everything, so they vary in size and muscle mass. Their heads are usually more pointed.

I emailed the owners and the pups are Registered UKC ABPTs. If you read the UKC standards for ABPTs these pups would not be considered proper in any way. It plainly states that over-developed muscling that impedes the dog's ability to work would be consider a very serious fault. It also states that their chests should not be wider than they are deep.

BenMax, do you think there is nothing wrong with the way these dogs have been bred? Just wondering, btw.

they look more like the british pits that are being created for fighting, like "cannonball"..Can you imaging not only screwing with your dogs genes that badly but then fighting them too.

I never said whether it is right nor wrong. If they are bred by a reputable and credible breeder, then I do not see the problem to be honest. I don't know where one would think that the dogs were drugged. Also, since I am pro rescue, breeding is not a topic for me to comment on. Everyone here knows that of me.

The ad doesn't strike me as being from a reputable or credible breeder. Just a funny feeling I got. I don't know, I feel that a reputable/credible breeder should be breeding to breed standards. These guys seem like BYBs.

They look more like English bull dogs, rather than pit bulls.

What strikes me isn't their appearance, but the psycho who wrote the description! Dang that was scarey to read.

No kidding - the ad:

UKC PITBULL PUPPIES!!!
These are going to be awesome pits every last one of them. They are so bully and wide with crazy head pieces. I had to do a repeat breeding because last breeding they are 9 months now and the smallest one is 85lbs already. email for more info thanks....

That male is pick male with white head and dont even ask about him unless you have 3500....
rest of pups will go for 1000-2000.

oh gawd!
