Question pinched nerve pooch

I took my 11 yr. old (at least got him from the spca that long ago) to the vet today she thinks he has a pinched nerve. I have some meds and he is supposed to rest for the week. He is a lab/border collie mutt. I forgot to tell her that he also is very picky about which water he wants to drink... i.e. he does not like the water from our well and prefers rain water... would that have anything to do with his condition. The dogs front right leg is also swollen and he has gained 5 lbs since last visit.... she also indicated if he does not get better it could be something with the lymph system.... would the water thing have anything to do with the limping, swelling and shaking?
Thanks in advance

Unless the rainwater is allowed to sit and become stagnant, I don't think that it would be an issue. Normally if a dog ingests water that is fouled, it would cause vomiting or diarrhea.

Did this limping, swelling and shaking occur after an injury or just develop over time? You said the dog gained 5lbs since his last visit - when was the last visit? Did the vet do any bloodwork?

thanks

no the rain water has not sat for long....
i think the last vet visit was 3-4 months ago.
I had another thought could be the meds from the vet making him thirsty too.

Lots of prescription meds can increase thirst.

So did these conditions develop over time or come on all of a sudden? On the weight gain, have you changed the food or increased the numbers of cookies? Unexplained weight gain can be sign of thyroid issues but it could also be an problem with the calibration on the scale.
