Kitten food ok for adult?

Well a few days ago i came across a really good deal on Iams canned cat food. I loaded up my basket with probably 30 tins and went on my way. Well a few days later I noticed that about half of them were kitten food!

So im wondering if there is any problem in feeding this to a 3 1/2 yr old?

It would be okay to feed short term.

I would however consider changing to a better brand such as Wellness.

I agree with the above. Also, Iams is very expensive and you are not really getting your money's worth. Please consider something else. Also, Iams has been accused of some pretty extreme things with animal testing on cats and dogs.

It will absolutely nothing to feed your cat kitten food. There is likely no difference in the ingredients. For the amount of money Iams cost per ounce, you could get a much better brand like Innova or Wellness and it will save you money in the long run.

Kitten food is very rich and recommended only for kittens. You can go back to the store and exchange it for adult food. Or maybe donate it to a shelter?

Not true. It has a slightly lower percentage of carbohydrates than the adult foods and a little more fat or protein, which is a good thing for any cat, but otherwise the difference is negligible. If one was feeding it too an overweight cat, I'd say feed a touch less to balance out the marginally higher amount of calories.

Here's how it compares:

Iams Kitten
protein 36%
fat 57 %
carbs 7%
fiber 0.6g/100cal
calories 47 cal/oz

Iams Lamb & Rice adult
protein 33%
fat 57%
carbs 10%
fiber 0.5g/100cal
calories 42 cal/oz

Iams Salmon adult
protein 35%
fat 52 %
carbs 13%
fiber 0.5g/100cal
calories 42 cal/oz

But ya, Wellness has higher quality ingredients and would be a better choice than Iams in the long run.
