Pet store worming medecine

Hi everyone,
I was wondering what is the mainstream opinion about pet store baught worming medecine. I recently purchased "Sergeant's " worming caps, each containing 140mg of Piperazine citrate. I plan to administer it to my 2 cats; Cookie, 9 years old, and Tonali, 11months old.

Thanks for any input.

Sandy

In general, we've not had good luck with off-the-shelf wormers with our dogs. They don't seem to be strong enough or specific enough. Not sure if that's true for cats, though.

Thanks Hazel,
I plan to wait about a week to get a few reviews before giving the medecine to my bundles of love!

I bought it once but didn't use it. I just had this weird doubt, and decided that if I didn't feel good about it I shouldn't use it. Took Chase to the vet instead...it cost A LOT more, but at least I felt sure in the knowledge that he was getting the best quality medicine for his tapeworm.

I'd recommend if you're feeling doubtful, trust your gut and go to the vet.

I've always been nervous about OTC wormers and if they don't do the job (see above), why risk it? The vet has some good ones that only require one or two doses a month apart. Maybe you could take one cat in and get enough for them all?

I wouldn't risk the OTC meds. I would get the worming meds from the vet. I worm my big indoor/outdoor male every 3 or 4 months and get a years supply of the pills from the vet to do so.

I also only use the worm meds from the vet for my dogs and cats.
