My cat turned up in a photo on the weather network, please help locate

Yesterday, I just happened to be on the Weather Network website and saw that someone posted an image of my long lost cat! My family's cat to be specific. We thought she passed away when she dissapeared a year ago. The title of the photo is: 'Beautiful Wild Cat' so she's obviously living as a stray. This opens up so many emotions again.. It says in the photo that she was in the Scarborough area.

My family lives in Kingston so I think she did what she loved to do so much - get into cars, and jumped into the back of a truck for a nice long ride.

If you see her, she responds to the name Tiger.

Here is the image on the Weather Network: http://www.theweathernetwork.com/you...gc_city_thumbs

Thanks

Then you should be calling the weather network to get her back.

I'm confused why not go to the source of the photo via the weathernetwork?

I hope you find your cat, wouldn't that be wonderful. I agree with Marko, you should definitely contact the weather network and ask them to contact the person who sent them the photo and have him call you. You could get details of the colony he spotted your cat in and go there to try to locate him. Good luck to you.

Good luck in finding your cat. I agree, contact the weather network to see if they can trace who posted the pic.

I agree with the other two posts..you've stated that emotions came over you when seeing the picture, but yet you seem not to interested in getting him back. I would have been on the phone as soon as the picture was posted.

Agreed Noah....if I had a picture that I thought was my lost one...you couldn't have stopped me from phoning or being at their desk wanting to know who sent in the picture, when and where!
If you think its yours do something about it!

Sorry, you should know this too

I have called and spoken to someone at the Weather Network. Due to confidentiality matters, she was only able to email the photographer and ask him to call me. I'm not allowed to reach him directly. I can only hope that he calls me..if not, then I'm relying on the kind people on this forum to let me know if you've seen her in the Scarborough area, thus the reason why I'm posting this.

The photographer wrote that she is a 'wild' cat, so it sounds like he took her photo while he passed by and has no clue as to where she might live. She's probably a stray..unfortunately that photo was taken in the winter so god only knows what has happened to her since.

Thanks

I would assume the cat is hanging out this guys property. If he calls, ask him to humanely trap the cat, then give you a call. Just becuase the picture is from the winter, means nothing. Obviously if this person is contacting the weather network now, in the summer..should mean that the cat is still hanging around.

I already searched his name in Yellowpages, 411, Google searches, etc.

Good idea about 411. Yes, I've done it all. This gentleman probably uses a cell phone so he doesn't exist on any phone directory. He also isn't mentioned on any websites which is peculiar.

It is strange isn't it how I found her on that website, which I don't frequent that often...sometimes I think things happen for a reason in life.

Actually it says the photo was shot June 2 and there is grass in the background!

You have the guy's name...try to get in touch with him. If you live in the Annex it is not that far from Scarborough.

Ok, if you really want your cat back you should do the following: open an old fashioned white pages and call every single Terrio in the GTA.... eventually u will get either the right person or a relative and will be able to set up a live trap/scout the area. This is doable.... just depends on your willpower to get your cat back. Let us know how this turns out...

There's only 19 Terrios listed in all of Ontario -

http://www.canada411.ca/search/si/1/terrio/ontario

Wilf Terrio should be related to one of them.

I could be wrong, but is there not several cat-colonies living in that area
If this is your kitty, she is a very beautiful,Tabby-girl,the only problem is,tabbies very often look alike.
I have a picture from a magazine,I would swear it's my Rocky,a Tabby-boy,but it's not because he's right here.
I hope you find the person who took the picture,so he can tell you where she was,but that means you'd have to come and see for yourself.
If she is in a colony they do not move around a lot, some rescuers might even be feeding them on a regular basis, and know her.
Good luck,she's a beauty

Good ideas

Yes, I contemplated calling every Terrio in the phone book for Ontario. I think you're right and that's the next step. Even though 'THE' Wilf Terrio was contacted directly by The Weather Network, he hasn't responded.

Oh absolutely, I would have to see her in person. I know her disposition well so if it's her, I'll recognize her meow and mannerisms.

A colony..interesting idea. Well if that's the case, at least she would have company and be quite happy which is good. My worry is that the affect of her shots will expire soon and she'll pick something up that harms her health, if she's surrounded by other felines.

Thanks

Another Idea (from a very passionate missing cat mom)

Hi there:

First of all - CONGRATULATIONS on having a lead. My Scout has been missing for 4 weeks this Monday, and after over 3,000 posters (and I'm going out with more on the weekend), we have had no such leads. How exciting that you've seen her.

I can only imagine how frustrating it would be to know someone knows something about your pet, and they aren't responding. That would make me lose my mind.

He may well be a photographer who sells his photos - probably a freelancer. I would post "desperately seeking wilf terrio" ads on craigslist and kijiji (where people often look for photography gigs). I wouldn't post it as looking for your lost cat - but rather as looking for a specific photographer - that may get him to call you back. Just a thought!

GOOD LUCK... I hope we're both reunited with our furry friends soon!

Shannon

Exclamation Did I just find your cat on Flickr too?!?

I went to Flickr.com & searched for cat, Scarborough, Ontario,
and found several photos of cats taken in
Bluffer's Park, uploaded in October 2009 by "sammikens"

This cat looks similar, but not identical to WN photo I think -

http://www.flickr.com/photos/sammikens/3999237633/

There appear to be several living in that area, too!

If it's not your cat...

Keep trying various searches. I also searched Google.

His last name might be Therriault & shortened to
Terrio so people could pronounce it. If Terrio is his nickname,
he might still be listed on Canada411.com under Therriault!

I found an obit, but it's for a guy who
lived in AUGUSTA (Maine?). Pretty sure it's not
the guy still taking photos in TO.

Wilfred T. "Wil T. Terrio" Therriault

Published in Kennebec Journal on June 10, 2010

http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/mai...&pid=143473526

Though theweathernetwork.ca says photo was shot June 2, 2010, if he enhanced or cropped the photo, the software might assign it a new "Taken on" date.

Photo description "Spotted this cat in winter thought was lost, but found several domestic cats living wild. So beautiful , may he live long. Scarborough, Ontario Canada // Shot: June 2, 2010"

I did a site search on theweathernetwork.com for Wilf Terrio.

He posted another photo, shot on June 19, 2010 in Toronto.
http://www.theweathernetwork.com/you...5653/3/upload/

Since he takes photos & shares them,
I would also try photo sites like Flickr.com,
Photobucket.com... (any other sites?)

He might also be on YouTube.

Best of luck!

The most recent photo shows Bluffers Park which is in the Scarborough Bluffs...maybe you could go see if you can see these cats there?

There is a colony of Cats at the Scarborough Bluffs....it was on tv this winter....TAS was giving their Keeper some grief, but it was sorted out in the end.....The man's name is Robert Brydges. They were also shown in a movie named Cat City by Justin Pimlott......maybe this will help you.

Lightbulb The best recovery tips for lost pets

Wow. This site has the best tips for finding lost pets that I've ever seen.

Missing Pet Partnership - http://www.missingpetpartnership.org/

'Missing Pet Partnership is a national, nonprofit organization dedicated to reuniting lost companion animals with their owners/guardians. Our website offers behavior-based lost pet recovery tips and referrals to lost pet services. We operate the first-ever volunteer lost pet search-and-rescue team (in Seattle, WA) that offers cutting edge lost pet recovery techniques..."

"...One of the biggest mistakes made with other pet sites that offer "lost pet tips" is providing canned suggestions that might not be the most effective method to recover a lost pet. For example, most shelters and animal websites tell you that if your cat is missing you should do three primary things: place an Ad in the newspaper, check the local shelter cages, and post flyers in your area. But if your cat is a skittish, indoor-only cat who escaped outdoors then these three methods are NOT going to increase your chances of recovering your lost cat!

...Each recovery tip page on our website contains unique and useful information that can help you if you've lost a pet, found an animal, or if you want to protect your animal family."

Good info if you've found a stray animal or run a rescue group:

"Think Lost, Not Stray: Revolutionary yet convincing concept. By shifting our point of view we can reduce the overcrowding of shelters and reunite found dogs and cats with their families!"

I think we should recommend that animal shelters and rescue groups learn about this info and post a link to Missing Pet Partnership on their websites, blogs, FB & their Animal Rescue Site page.

If anyone knows someone who's lost a pet, please share the info from MPP with them & help lost pets return home! Lost pets & their owners need all the help they can get.

Best wishes.
