Help! My dog has skin problems.
Hi guys, so my dog is around 2 years old and has recently developed this weird skin problem. She has seen the vet and said it was allergies but she hasnt gotten any better. Here are some pictures.... do you think it can be something more?
I am worried about her and would appreciate any comments. |

Hi and welcome to the board!
It could be several things, but the first thing that comes to mind for me is a Thyroid issue. The darkening of the skin is very typical, and skin issues in general. Ask your vet for a Thyroid panel (not a T4 test, but a full Thyroid panel. The best place to have is done is through Dr. Dodds in California. Her company is called Hemopet and she's fantastic. She will tailor the results for the breed/age and take in to account any other medical conditions. IF it is the Thyroid, it's an easy fix Please make sure you update us! This is a link to Hemopet. There's a lot of good info here: www.hemopet.org

Thank you for your answer However, I forgot to add that the skin problem is spreading to my other dog a swell (albeit not as serious). She has been scratching at it a lot.

How many of these spots does she have? Are they oozing at all and is she licking at them?
The second picture really appears to be a hotspot, however I would think your vet would have picked up on that right away if that was what it indeed is.

Have any tests (skin scrapings) been done? What drugs have been tried?

Well we are getting a secound opinion this week, so hopefully the vet can tell us what she has. The problem is she is in central america and I'm in Canada so I can only rely on pictures but I will ask the caretaker about the physical aspects of it.
