please help.

Hi guys, my name is Dan and I'm from the Philippines. I would like to apologize in advance because I don't really have any knowledge regarding dogs and pets. I just got a pet about a month ago. So this is my story-

Me and my girlfriend were in chinatown in Manila to celebrate the chinese new year (though I am not a chinese, I was just curious about how they celebrate and stuff). We were walking along a narrow street when I noticed a small market filled with different kind of animals. I wasn't interested in getting a pet but out of curiosity, we went inside and saw a large basement filled with cats, dogs, rabbits, birds and other animals crammed inside small cages. The place was filthy, conjested and foul smelling. I knew that the animals weren't taken care of properly. I felt really really bad for this poor animals, we decided to leave immediately but when we were about to do so, I saw this little gloomy pup inside a cage. Again, I had no plans on getting an animal but I wouldn't want to leave something that precious in a place like that. I bought the pup then and there, and not wanting to be in that place any longer, as soon as I had the pup in my arms, I immediately left without asking anything from the seller (probably a big mistake). I was planning to give it to a relative or something but while we were inside the taxi on our way home, the pup gently placed his head on my chest and and slept. I fell absolutely in love with him right at the moment. When we came home, he had a hard time walking, since he was stuck in a small cage since he was born, I assume. I took him to the vet the following day to have him checked and stuff.

It breaks my heart that I was only able to save one pup out of the hundreds more inside that place and I can't imagine seeing my pet staying there even for another day.

Now my pet is a healthy and playful little pup, chewing all my things, pooping on my floor, spreading pup fur everywhere, and making me smile and laugh everytime I come back home from work! By the way, my little pups name is Cloud and I will never let anything make him gloomy again.

Please help: Many people said that he is a St. Bernard, and I don't have any idea how old he is cause the seller wasnt sure either. I wanna make sure so that he gets all the care needed for his breed. I will post a picture of him as soon as I get response from you guys.

I also informed the authorities about the market, I sincerely hope they do something about that dreadful place.

Thanks alot for your time.

just keep at the authorities, no one can tell what your pet is or guess at an age unless a picture is posted

Bless your heart. I would suspect that these animals were meant for human consumption. You saved THIS one...which means alot to him. That is what counts. I am sorry that you are burdeoned with those images, but maybe this will entice you to be pro-active and stop this horrific practice. The worlds need voices for the voiceless...this may be your calling.

Please do post and we will do whatever it takes to help you.

Bless you.

I too would like to thank you and welcome you and Cloud to the forum..Unfortunately I don't think Manila's laws are too concerned with animal welfare. You saved this little one and right now that's what's important.. You will pretty much only be able to guesstimate Clouds age,,not sure what the vet told you but he will need a series of shots before the age of one,,or a year from now just to be sure. I would have him de-wormed,,most puppies have them. And most important please have the little one neutered at an appropriate age.

k pics now please.
