:( I can't believe this is happening...

Max started urinating blood today, his sister has been puking and had severe diheriah for the last month and both were just recenelty switched off the hills vet food brand weight control which was just recalled ( as max our neutered male tabby had had crystals in the past). Mitten went to a vet first 3 weeks ago and was given anti-inflammitory and anti-nausia pills which made no difference in her condition. She went back last thursday and was switched to stronger meds but the vet strongly believes it is either irritable bowel syndrom or lymphomia which we just lost our boxer to in october.

At first I thought the blood was from mitten and a possible side effect from her new stronger meds which have been working ( which confirms that she either has irritable bowel syndrom or lymphomia) as there was only a small amount in the urine in the litter box mitten normally uses. However later on I saw max in it and just as I was about to move him to his litter box he urinated almost 70% blood.

All of the vets are closed tonight but were going early tommorow on my mom's lunch break as I have a third spare and get out at the same time but I dunno I'm worried alot of cats have already died from that vet hills recall and Max's symptoms deffiently match poisoning.

I thought there was a 1 800 number for Menu Foods. If you could find a number for Hill's. I would call and see if they could give you any suggestions on what to do untill the vet opens. Good Luck

Well we went in today and we have semi-goodish news I suppose. The vet thinks Max has another cyrstal in his bladder and as such will have to be put back on the crappy medi-cal anti-crystal food for the rest of his life as based on his history he is very prone to them. I can't believe the **** they put in it and the third and fourth ingredients are corn I feel awful. I'm still going to add in a little bit of wellness and try and balance it out but the crap stuff will have to be the majority for him. We also have to keep a close eye on him as it can easily become blocked over night which could be fatal.

As for mitten she's on two more weeks of meds plus what seems to be a lifetime of medi-cal food, this one isn't as crappy as the other one and shockingly has NO corn but still has potatoe meal as the first ingredient followed by chicken meal and then more potatoe. Same as with max I'll still be giving a bit of wellness mixed in with her wet and dry food but she will still need majority of the crap food for her irritable bowel syndrom which the vet is 90% sure it is.

So to cap it off were out a grand alone from the last two weeks of vet care and possibly a grand more for a liver biopsy if the meds do not improve Mitten's condition alone plus the possible cost of any surgery that may need to be done if the crystal will not pass and break up on it's own with a combo of more liquids and wet food and the special food and not to mention additional rechecks and possibly meds for Mitten for the rest of her life if it is irritable bowel syndrom or worse losing her if it turns out to be lymphomia. I'm not trying to suggest that money is more important then our pets life's it's just fusterating to know this MAY have been caused by the previous food they were eating as after not having a single problem her whole life and Max not having a problem for 5 years they both conviently get seriously ill at the same time.

But on the plus side there both doing well for now minus being stuck on super ****ty food for the rest of their lives...

Kayla

Either way I'll keep everyone updated.
Kayla
