Cat Safe Drugs
Does anyone know if carisoprodol (brand names Soma or Vanadom) is safe to use with cats? I have a new kitty rescue that is totally matted and was told by the groomer to obtain a tranquilizer prior to bringing her in to calm her. She is so matted she will need to be practically shaved. I had this carisoprodol that was prescribed to me for a back injury as a muscle relaxant and thought I might be able to use it for the kitty. It is 350 mg per tablet and the kitty is a small adult female, I'd guess 5-6 lbs at most in weight. Any ideas if it is safe for her, or even effective in this suggested use?
Thanks so much! Kelly Clear Lake All Breed Rescue |

Don't give anything without calling a vet first. You could kill your cat.

Definitely do not give that to your cat. Why don't you ask your vet if they will shave your cat? They very often will and will have the appropriate tranquilizer to give her, if needed.

Giving human meds to any animal can be fatal in any dose - since not all meds react well with humans, you can imagine how wrong they can go in animals. Please call your vet for the proper prescription for your cat.

![]() I had to have my Calico shaved cause she was so matted...They actually had to knock her right out to do it..Reason being, she has a mean streak in her and it takes 3 vet techs to hold her just to have her shots. So when she was going in for her shave, they said they would have to knock her out.
